just read an article that said 30g of whey protein was the best thing within 1 hr of working out because its an easier protein to digest.

I usually dont eat before working out, but I do load up on the whey protein after I work out. I also take creatine, hmb, zma. I think protein is probably the best thing to have afterwards. I have over 200 grams of protein each day.

I agree with alot of the posters in this thread. Ask what is your goal when going to the gym. Is it to lose weight or is it to gain muscle? What has worked for me is that I would eat a small serving of oatmeal before hitting the gym about 45 minutes before going. I would most certainly say that you MUST have a protein shake after working out as your muscles are going to be starving and feeding them whey protein is a great way to go.

I have read alot of studies and have experienced some great lose when I would do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. Now I'm not a doctor or a specialist but if you think that your body is on starvation mode as you haven't eaten anything for 10-12 hours since supper/dinner. So you get up in the morning and start with a workout your body is looking for a source of energy to use and then starts to burn some of that fat you are trying to get rid of. If you have a protein shake before working out your body is going to use that as it's energy fuel. You will have to workout even longer in order to use up the protein shake and then get to the body to start burning the fat.

Good question though.

Before & after I eat a protien shake that has 46 grams of protein, a cup of dry total cereal, and 2 tbls of Udo's choice blend. Right after my workout in the gym locker room I have 1 carbo force by ABB mixed with 1 scoup of vanilla protein, then go home and eat my "after" meal.
