I know many of us or politically or semi politically active here. We bring a plethera of political opinions to this site. I was curious, to those who are registered to vote (which I would assume would be 90% of those on this site), What did you tell those who told you "Their vote doesn't matter" or "Your stupid to think your vote means anything"

Look I know whe can have a separate discussion on the electoral college vs the popular vote. Maybe that can happen or be looked up in a different thread.

But to those of you, republican or democrat, I'm curious with what you told those who say, "It'll never matter whether I vote and its a waste of time."

I don't encounter that attitude often, but when I do I've found that if the person is over the age of 25 there's likely not much I can do to persuade them otherwise, so I pretty much say nothing.

Instead I look for others who WILL vote and do what I can to assist, motivate and facilitate their active participation

local elections more of an impact on you than the prez but most people don't pay attention to those or vote in those unless there is a prez election

its all one big circus show

obama or mccain it really doesn't impact you the average joe much

i personally "wasted" my vote on 3rd party for prez this year just like i did in 2004

You know, I agree. However I do think that attitude is the biggest cop-out answer anyone can give. As if to assume they're too cool to vote or thinking the work we do or the opinions we have is meaningless and wastefull. They're couch potato's as far as i'm concerened.

LOL. I guess I'm bringing this up because I had a discussion with this woman the other day. And she yapped on and on about how voting doesn't matter and that people are wasting their times. This being the same woman who would complain about abortion rights, healthcare for her kids and how Bush was a terrible president. Etc, etc. Obviously she was an easy target for me to cut down. I shut her up real quick. But by the same token these people irriate me the most you know? they don't do jack shit about educating themselves on policies and simply go by what's said on the news or by hearsay. Then they in the end the're the biggest loudmouths in watercooler discussions.

So TIZ, Lesson Learned = Save Your Valuable Life Minutes & Ignore Jackasses

The nagging counter mentally is a concern, "But what if this nimrod persuades others to their apathetic, ignorant point of view??"

Answer - You're not the only one who realizes at the end of most days that Nimrod is a Nimrod.

Many folks might nod their heads a bit while the watercooler speech is being delivered, but once they go down the hall they'll likely confess, "That's just another empty bitch from Nimrod".

Because people have more wealth, political parties are far less relevant than they have ever been, so less folk bother about it.

The time it takes to vote definitely gives an advantage to the candidate who promises the most to the gainfully unemployed **cough** Obama **cough**. However I think voter turn out this year was near an all time high.
