I have been taking a stab at poker recently and would like to hear people's input. I have used:

true poker
absolute poker
paradise
poker stars
party poker

My favourite so far is poker stars. Love the frequent player points.

Anyone know which cardroom has the lowest rake?

Also, any resources you know please post a link or name any books for hold em. I'm new and am just learning.

Thanks!

Party Poker can get fvcked. Without more than an email, I am stuck paying for the fvcking Lingerie Bowl with their increased rake.

Peteep-

Overall my favorite site is Party Poker (Empire Poker). I love the game selection and level of play.

with that said, if someone took Party's customers and moved them to Pokerstars I would jump to Pokerstars and never leave.

The comparison I would make is similar to playing at a full vig shop versus a reduced line shop. Given the same line, I find it hard to play a game at -110 when I can have -107 or -105. The games at Party are easier and I just cannot imagine continuing to play at a place where my EV is positive (Pokerstars) but NOT AS POSITIVE as it is elsewhere (Party).

Software/Customer Service/Tournament Variety ----> Pokerstars

Game Selection/Large Tournaments ----> Party Poker

I'm surprised there hasn't been any more responses. I know there is a poker forum but it seems dead so hopefully no one cares I am posting in here.

Anyone tried ultimate bet?

Anyone make consistent profits playing poker online?

Don't think you'll have too many online poker players talking about profits.

Frankly, if you do a search of the Poker Forum (as well as other forums), this question has been asked a number of times albeit in different forms.

Well i dont want ot get into the reasons, but I would guess that only about 20% of players playing online poker ever earn enough to receive a payout! The rest of the money goes to 10% of the players.

Now I have done pretty well, but it is basically because of a $12,000 first prize satellite poker tourney that I won from pokerstars. I consider myself a pretty good player, but I like to play in live games where I can see the players more than online games.

Now having said all of this, let me give you some advice! FIND one site that you like alot and play a few hundred to a few thousand hands and watch the patterns. Maybe play the small stakes tables for a while. Now I only say this because these games play MUCH differently than live poker games.

NEVER in my life have I seen so many pocket aces or pocket kings as I do when you are playing in a 2-4 person game. I mean, the software gives usually 2 people great hands. IN real life situations, unless bluffing is involved, the cards are not near as good.

Now i know that some people will say that on TV they always get great hands. WELL they dont show you the dead hands on TV!

SO learn a few things about your site. FOr example here is a big hint! If you see the first 3 cards suited on the flop, you can pretty much assume that you will see another one as well. LIkewise, they inside straights DO HIT with more frequency on the net! SO if the betting is not high, then ALWAYS make sure ot see that river card!

Some will say, why is this? Well that is because the house makes more rake on the big hands!

Why is that?

Unlike PO I will not give you meaningless stats without backing it up. For example, where on earth does he get his 10% and 20% numbers (if you think about it, it makes no sense)?

My point was, a) not very many people win and b) those who win generally will not talk about numbers (unlike PO who has mentioned his 12k satellite take and does so almost whenever he makes a poker post). If he won a satellite, it has no cash value (it allows you to enter a tournament with a larger stake). At most online rooms, in order to cash out a satellite you have to win two or more to the same tourney.

This really doesn't make very much sense. In most online poker games at a reasonable limit virtually the ENTIRE rake is taken before the river and frequently it is taken before the turn. The rake is capped at 3 bucks and with many people calling preflop with all sorts of hands the pots hit the rake break points by the time you see the first three cards.

I certainly believe that the sites are capable of stealing but 1) fixing the cards to boost the rake makes no sense since people like to see flops (only with an unlimited rake could I see this) and 2) I've seen so many wierd beats in real games that the hands online is very similar ESPECIALLY when you consider that the online games deal 2-3 times as many hands as you see in a casino.

My opinion is very similar to theswami's. I first starting playing online poker at Planet Poker. The interface sucked. The software sucked. But they had no real competition at the time. And the games were easy to beat.

Once Paradise Poker arrived, we were treated to a huge upgrade in software quality. I put in a lot of hours there. I haven't played there lately, but I suspect they're still a quality site.

Next for me was PokerStars. I like their multi-table tourneys. Great software -- best I've seen. Also very good customer support. I still play here regularly.

Finally, I got around to trying Party Poker. What first struck me was how much poorer the software and interace was vs a site like PokerStars. Huge difference. I've also found Party's customer support to be lacking. They're polite -- just pretty worthless. If you ask them anything they're not used to answering, they really struggle. Often, they just ignore the question and respond with some 'random' nonsense. This may be due to high volume. But whatever the case, I've found their support to be very sub-par. And, as I've said, I don't think much of their software.

Despite this, I still put in many more hours at Party vs anywhere else. They spread many more games than other sites. Also, the players are some of the worst I've ever seen. As theswami said, if PokerStars had Party Poker's customer base, I'd never play anywhere else.

Or they just hang up.

I play at UB and Pstars and pokerroom.com exclusively UB is the best software and the best product imo but has about 1/2 the players of pstars and a 1/4 the customers of party poker.

Thanks BP.

How is the level of play at UB? I see many people think Party has the easiest games....do you agree?
