whatever,,, my point is What are the Mysterious CUTOFF points to getting 1 thing or another??? does anyone Know??

Time multiplied by the Size of each bet = Comps,,,

so what are thsoe cutoff points????
will I get the same comps betting 25$ a bet Vers. 50$ a bet???? for the same ammount of time on the table????

thanks Guys,,,

Could write a book on this subject.....

1. Always have yourself rated at table games. Inside tip- Always make your first few bets larger than what you will normally be playing say for the hour or so. Many times the pit boss will mark that down and you will be credited for playing that size wager for the entire time you are at the table.

2. Always play with a slot card at slot and video poker machines. TIP- Look for a card with good value and play on double and triple point days.

.......to be continued.

Having been a casino host in my ex-life I have some
icon_razz.gif
experience with this.

It goes like this (in vegas and most other places).

You play for 4 hours a day at X average bet (table games). Depending on the casino, they set average bet limits for various things. Like at a nice place, it could be 4 hours at 75avg for a casino rate on a room. $100 x 4 hours for a room comp, etc etc.

The computer keeps track of your time, avg bet, type of game(and the theoretical hold of that game) * the average amount of 'hands' delt per hour for that game (i.e. 60-70 for BJ) to come out with your EP or theoretical win. The casinos have an average of what they intend to give back as a % of this theo win in comps(say at least 30%).

This is all theoretical of course, if you walk up and play for 20 mins but lose 8 dimes, they are not looking theoretical, they know you lost 8k and will act accordingly.

Before you play anywhere, go see a casino host and ask what the comp system is for whatever it is your looking for (room, food, beverage, tix,etc etc), and they will be happy to tell you.

Should you 'play for comps'? No. Play whatever you intend on playing knowing what the criteria is, and what your entitled to get in comps. One thing has nothing to do with another, since its much cheaper to pay rack rate on a room and buy your own dinner than potentially lose 10k!

Tate,
Call casino marketing, ask for a CASINO HOST, and give him your player number. Ask him what you got down for hours and avg bet, and win/loss and take the conversation from there. If they wont tell you this info, then your talking with a 2-bit casino, and you shouldnt be playing there in the first place. ANY host will tell you the comp criteria of their joint! If they dont, then don't bother with them its bs.

3. Introduce yourself to a slot host upon arriving at a new casino and have this person be your personal slot host for future visits. TIP- When playing slots of VP, ask your slot host for free meals, rooms, etc., and this way you will not use any slot card points up and can turn the points in for cashback if the casino offers that. This is great when your playing a 100+% machine and your making cash off the card PLUS free comps from the host which both are all gravy.

Most slot hosts are basically in the dark as to what a 100%+ payback machine is, and even if they do know, they dont care.

I think it is impossible to get comps and sports and horses. I have played them incessantly with no comp luck. I think you probably need to bet 5 dimes a game all day to get their attention.

However blackjack and craps you can get pretty good comps and I am surprised how little you have to put in action.

get in tight with a good host and he can pull strings for you. If you don't have a relationship with a host that is beyond the norm, it will be difficult to get anything unless you are a bonified whale.

If you have to worry about comps you can't afford to gamble. The wife and I get full comps at MB and get invites to all the big events and big slot tourneys. We always make a point of dropping by to see our hostess and thank her for the hospitality.

4. Sportsbooks in Vegas-- Unless you know somebody working(

) in a sportsbook, consider yourself fortunate if you even get a lousy buffet. A couple drink tickets per wager are a piece of cake though.

Your buddy has to be playing some SERIOUS coin to get a comp for New Year's for 4 days. That is like gold, there is no tougher time to get a comp, let alone a room in town than that time of year. If the house thinks he is worthy of a room comp then I would guess he has to be giving at least $200 average bets at an average place, say a Flamingo or Harrahs and a little more for a little classier place. The formula given is exactly right, they calculate their expected win and give you back about 40% of that if you ask and get rated each and every time you play.

Tate - different casino's will have different cut-offs for what they offer. The further away you are from the popular places the further your $$$'s go. For instance you will get much more at Binion's Horseshoe than you will at Bellagio for putting the same amount in action. If I go to BeauRivage in Biloxi with a buddy of mine they will bicker and whine about comping us a room over the week-end, Casino Magic would send a jet for us. LOL. Slight exaggeration but not much.

Unless it has changed they actually work the figures based on what the expected loss is rather than what you actually win or lose. They track your bet size and time gambling because with that information they can figure what they should be earning off your play. It's the same calculation whether you are winning 100k or losing 100k. Expected hold X bet size X time in action. They are tracking hold based on a set % that they know they will win long term. At roulette they know what their hold is just as they do at craps, blackjack etc..... Hope this makes sense.

I don't even play the game with them any longer. I pay for my room and stuff out of my own pocket and brush off the folks tracking me. I know some feel it is throwing money away but I actually do much better that way rather than have these guys hovering over me as I try and gamble. Once on a boat I think I dropped $1000 or so trying to get comped for $6 dollar cocktail. LOL. Just throws me off my game so let me pay for my room and just leave me alone. The only exception for me is if I get a poker rate. If not, no thanks to the comps.

BTW if you do play the comp game Krackman wrote a good article last year or so about it. There are some little tricks like Fish mentioned above that can work for you. Maybe someone knows where it is and can post it here.

Tips:
1. Read Max Rubin's book "Comp City" and Jean Scott's "The Frugal Gambler"

2. Ask what the criteria in average bet and time played.

3. Ask specifically about : casino rate (the discounted room rate for qualified gamblers), comp rooms (Free room), and RFB (Room, food, and beverage). They should be able to give you a definitive answer.

4. Realize that all is not equal and a $25 average bet might not even get you a buffet at Bellagio, but could get you a RFB at a downtown joint.

5. Be inquisitive, but courteous to all parties: hosts, bosses, dealers, etc. I can tell you for a fact the nicer you are to employees and they more they enjoy seeing you the more strings they will pull for you (i.e. higher average bets, free tickets, buffets, advice, etc.)

6. Don't try and skimp or cheat them on their rating of you. If they feel you are trying to pull something over on them, they may downgrade you or not rate you all together.

7. Tip: Even dealers and cocktail waitresses can say a few words or have connections higher up that may get you more than you actually deserve.

8. Make them want you to come back. If they value you as a customer and want your repeat business, they will bend over backwards for you.

9. If you don't ask, you won't get. The worst they can say is no. However, don't ask for 12 to the gourmet room when you've played 10 bucks a hand for 2 hours, be realistic.

10. Finally, be courteous. Casino staff deal with all kinds of ignorant a**holes tourists day in and day out. If you get to know them personally they will remember you and do anything for you. An example is a customer I knew remembered the shift boss's birthday and brought him some cookies she made. Needless to say, after that she got just about anything she asked for.

Hope that helps.
