I've not read it either, but I do know Larry Grossman speaks of it highly.

I haven't used the methods prescribed in Betting the Bases yet, but I bought it at the Gambler's Book Shop in Vegas on the recommendation of Howard Schwartz himself. It is old, but I think the ideas still hold a lot of truth. It describes 10 different angles to use while betting baseball. He explains all of them and how well they did (in the 80's). At the end, all the angles are summarized and he gives percentages for how much of your bankroll should be played on each angle. His system involves a great deal of record keeping, but this is obviously much easier today than when he wrote the book. I highly recommend it just on the basis that it is fun to read. I am actually reading it again in preparation for this season. You can't beat it for $8.95.

There aren't too many baseball books out there: Lee's book is pretty good if you are just getting into baseball. The angles he advocates are pretty well played out though. Robert Ross's book wasn't much. The best one by far is the one by Michael Murray: lots of details about park factors, umpires and using "Moneyball" stats to bet.

Agreed, Michael Murray's book is the best one I have read so far.

Just learn the pitchers. I collect rookie cards and they come out so early now. When A guy is worth big money at 18 keep an eye out for his first two years. Guys like Penny and Floyd and Sheets. Know what new guys with 0-0 records you are fading!

Phil Erwin's Baseball Insight Annual & Pitching Aces are excellent. Can be found at GBK. J.T.

The Lee and Murray books are good. I found relatively few pages of use in the Murray book but those were quite useful. The favorite in my library is Betting To Win On Baseball by Robert Ross.

Phil Erwin's two books Baseball Insight Annual and Pitching Aces are annualy as indispensable as Spring Training and his baseballinsight.com is a must for me.
You can call Phil to order. He answers his own phone.
