Funny, I live in Ohio and my last 3 speeding tickets were all in North Carolina. Asshole lied about my speed, I asked to see the Radar Gun. He told me I could fight it, if I wanted to go to court. Those assholes know what they are doing also, getting us Ohio guys going to myrtle beach with 0% chance I am going to drive back and fight it, in some hick town, on a tuesday at 9am.

just sayin

Yeh.. small town cops in NC are awful. Ive been tailed on numerous occasions for no reason what so ever. 1 ticket.. and a thrown out ticket for expired tags. They just pull up under you and pull ur plates looking for anything they can get if you aint doing anything wrong

Isn't it Virginia that had those $1000 fines a few years back for stupid shyte? Only lasted a few months, but not before many motorists were ripped off.

Speeding tickets, like most traffic tickets, are simply about taxing the motorist. Of course, the coppers and safety nazis proclaim it's about saving lives or reducing accidents. Yeah, right. It's just another way to legally rob unsuspecting motorists while filling the coffers and serving the insurance masters. Unfortunately, most people continue to utter the mantra "I did wrong. Therefore I must pay," like they are confessing to the almighty.

You can do something, at least on a local level. I realize the OP was ticketed out of state. Next election, make sure you question state candidates about these types of issues. You could even contact your current state reps. and voice your concern.

Driving is important. Driving without hassles is very important. And you likely have a lot of dollars invested in your vehicle. Consider joining an auto club that helps protect your right to drive without being a victim of highway robbery. I have been subscribing to motorists.org for years.

my advice

fight it

I did and won because the cop didnt show

when you request discovery...make sure you request things pertaining to the law

I did this...and I think the cop got scared...and didnt want certain things regarding the law revealed in a public courtroom

when you are NOT at fault challenge the facts

when you ARE at fault challenge the law

p.s. it took make 3 weeks of non stop searching on the internet to find out the law in my particular case...even though the cop did not show...I was prepared with about 15 specific questions for the officer in regards to the law...and you should be preapred as as well...also...make sure you understand the law well enough...so that if the Judge asks you a question about it...you will be prepared for that as well

oh...and dont listen to shills for the police dept on various internet forums...there are TONS of them who come out of the woodwork and tell you things like "dont speed" and "just pay your ticket"

this is america...you are innocent until PROVEN guilty...the burden of proof is on the prosecution and the officer (the prosecutions only witness)

let me tell you...the line was wrapped around the building...of people with their checkbooks out and their debit cards ready to pay pay pay

if only they spent a little time doing some research they might have come across something (as I did) showing the police dept was actually breaking the law with the issuing of shady citations to generate revenue for their dept

Yeah the Commonwealth of VA put out what is called the Safety Corridors and you can be fined up to $2500 http://www.virginiadot.org/programs/ct-highway-safety-corridor.asp .
Every time I go home, I make sure Im driving the speed limit or if Im not Im driving with the traffic. The police in VA is no joke.

Oh yes, the extortion corridors. We have a few of those around here. Not to the tune of $2500, but they at least double fines. It's such a blatant scam for towns and cities to steal more from drivers. And then the cops wonder why everyone hates them.
Safety Corridor. Uh ok. I will drive safe for a short time and save up my reckless abandon for a few miles down the road. Makes total sense.
