If I were google I would open an auction site that is 100% free for a whole year, then gradually start taking profits.

Ebay's costs have not gone up but they keep bleeding the sellers. They have an outright monopoly on what they do. No auction site can compete with them.
In almost any other Internet endeavor others have entered the marketplace to create healthy competition. If Ebay has 20 million eyeballs, just a conjecture.
I don't know how many members or viewers their auctions have. Why would one go to another site. If you are seller you have a smaller chance to sell your item. If your a buyer you have less competing sellers resulting in a higher price. Ebay was brilliant. They were the game starter. They hit the ground running and became an Internet survivor. As far as them getting fees on shipping they were forced to do it. Sellers cleverly were pricing their items low and charging high shipping and handling fees which they didn't have to pay sellers fees on.

They use to take down those Auctions that had a HIGH S&H fees... guess they gave up on that.

My Wife use to be a Gold Powerseller ( as late as 2009 ) right around the time where they again raised fees. A lot of the Sellers back then were looking to boycott Ebay..... They found a few sites and started listing ... but it was Nothing like Ebay, so some came back...others just said forget about it ( My Wife being one of them )

The thing is, Even though Ebay is probably the Best Auction site out there... It's NOT the same as it was Years ago... Not even Half of what it use to be.

Instead of using Ebay I just post on different cities on Craigslist.

There is rule about not making the same posting in different cities, but the way around it is to make small changes in the body of the post (e.g. change the order of the wording).
I what know your about talking. Help for the thanks.

wow i had no idea on the 1099 so i did a little research...fwiw im going to call them tomorrow and speak to someone to make sure i know everything as far as the grossing 20K and receiving the 1099 is correct.... "Details and Caveats, As a practical matter, if you're an eBay seller, this will effect you unless your gross sales are under $20,000 for the year or you receive fewer than 200 transactions. Reporting for small sellers at this level is not required."

i just went thru my paypal from last year and i did $18K in gross sales....thru 4 months of this year im $1700 ahead of what i did the 1st 4 months of last year...talk about fu-king putting me in a bad spot, the holidays are my busiest time of year now im gonna potentially have to shut my store down once i get close to the 20K number...unfuckingbelievable....

If Craigslist isn't working out for you guys, try to make a basic looking website where you can advertise your goods through google checkout. Google offers a flat 3% charge which is the best you're going to get in the marketplace, not to mention the amount of people that use google shopping.

Fee are to again increase in June to even make thing better and paypal to send 1099s in Janurary for yearly sales over $600.
This is probably an IRS issue more than some rule that EBAY/Paypal made. I would think EBAY wouldn't want the 1099's involved in their yearly sales in fear of losing their bigger money earning sellers.
