The element of surprise is what affords these plays the best chance of success. Inside own 20 is surprising. I dont have the inclination to search for stats on this thing, but i would be confident more fake punts succeed from a teams own territory then there opponents. I think the onside ratio is roughly equal this year on planned vs surprise onside kicks though.

I still say the should have rested everyone, the record would be awesome but a Super Bowl run from this young team would be even better...well rested teams are key in January! And if Baltimore has to play NE or KC down the road they will be that much fresher!

Now we agree, this is a disgrace that these guys are playing and risking injury with the playoffs next week.
I wouldnt worry about playing Kc or NE though, I dont think the Ravens will get past tenn next week.

you would be hard pressed to find a team with anything at stake going for a fake punt iside its own 20...I can`t recall that ever happening...I doubt they would have pulled it if Cincy was still alive either...But I can`t blame them, they had no chance otherwise,lol...I actually feel a little hatred towards my all-time favorite team here (Pitt)
