It has been many years since I used WU, before Al Gore invented the internet. But even then it seemed a bit of a hassle.

Now if a new law goes into effect; Do you think the Gov. is going to say---"We're not going to worry about Western Union". Well, I don't know any more than the next person. But, what if they start requiring a social security number for all outside the USA locations. (Make up a number you say--No, I mean, they want a picture ID or something you can be identified with driver's lisc. or whathaveyou. Ok--Lets say they are required to put cameras in all locations and they randomly track the money. "Uncle Louie" did not pick it up as you stated, but rather someone your real BIG Uncle Sam has been watching.
No--I don't see Western Union as any option.

I give up with these "THE SKY IS FALLING", posters. Do you really think Uncle Sam is going to start a Federal investigation on why you are sending John Smith a couple hundred bucks via WU? Send the damn book a cashiers check. Don't tell me you're afraid the U.S. P o s t a l authority is going to start an investigation on why you are sending mail to Costa Rica. Read ppeter post in one of the Gambling Bill threads. Hopefully it will put your mind at ease.

You can buy money orders at any PO for up to $700 each, its then easy to Fed-Ex or DHL them to anywhere in the world. Books can send checks back the same way. I am sure the books will come up with other ways to get around Credit Card and WU. problems.

Cashier's Check might be an option. I'm not that familiar with them.

Actually a cashier's check is less desirable and usually requires ID to purchase. A PO money order is different, as are other money orders you can buy in Mailbox Etc. convience stores, and plenty of other locations, if you keep the amount under $1000 you can remain anonymous. If you need to send say $2500 just buy several, even if it means going to several locations to buy them.

PS, I am not sure what the max limit is at a US PO for money orders, I for some reason remember $700, but am not sure anymore.

With checks and money orders, one will have to plan in advance. Start preparing now & all will be fine. If we need to go via mail, we will. No big deal. Adapt & overcome

General-Who is the "we" here?
Let's suppose that I can convince WSEX to accept a ****** Money Order or Any money order (don't think I could but will say--I could). Now, how do I get paid in a manner that will draw no attention to me should this become illegal and a penalty placed on the player. (See-I don't plan to drink drunk anymore and HOPE not to get caught)

Old,

If you, I , or any player can get in with a check, then we are fine. As for payouts, I have requested checks before. They do not come with FROM: "Beverly Hills Bookie" on them. They are processed from Banks and as long as the amount doesn't raise an eye with your bank, then we are fine. As for getting attention for receiving money, nothing is changing that I am aware of.

The cashiers check option is far worse than the wetern union option. What if you need to withdraw $15,000 ? The Gov't will find out about it and you will have to explain where the money came from.

I dont see why the books cant continue using western union as they do now. Western Union already voluntarily stopped allowing transfers to and from books and the books found a way around it. The books simply have JOHN SMITH send money to you and collect money from you. There is no way for our govt to know this is a sportsbook transaction as opposed to an EBAY purchase.

When does this become law ?

Let's wait and see. You would think that some of the offshore places would (at least) be preparing a letter to send out to long time customers of how to address checks--assumming they they are going to take them at all. (WSEX has plenty of customers and may not be even planning on changing ANYTHING for all I know.)

I dont play that high so I will never collect $15,000 , however I know there are some players who play in the $5,000 range. These players may win and lose $15,000 on a regular basis. They dont consider $15,000 to be as much money as I do and they may not want to go every time they have a good weekend.
