It's a busy Sunday night for me. So tentatively...

Oregon St.-14/UW* (UW's defense will not stop or even slow down Rogers & Rogers)
Cal/AZ Pickem* (see below)
UCLA -2.5/Stanford* (but I wouldn't lay 3.5)
SJSU-2.5/NMSU* (Spartans are on a run... they won @ Hawaii in a tougher situation 2 weeks ago)
USC-42/WSU* (Div 1-A giant vs. HS players... this is ridiculous)

Nothing really stands out except maybe the Beavers where UW is in chaos, especially on the defensive side. Zona is in over their heads. Their defense was finally tested by a decent running offense last week and the Cats failed. I heard that Best will be ready to play by the 18th which is this Saturday. Cal's defense rates too and against far tougher opponents than what Zona has faced this season. I think Cal is on a run and should run right over Arizona.

Surprisingly all this chalk for the second week in a row and it's mid-season too! I just play 'em like I see 'em. And not just to leave it there, I also think Boise will bury the Rainbows on Friday something bad and they are laying 25.

I'll be back with more to say when I have a little more time. Meanwhile.... have at it.

I agree with USC...We will in all likelihood have our walk-on starting as I don't think Lopina will be back...Wulff is not going to burn the redshirt year for Levenseller this year...If he did...Levenseller will get killed since our O-Line can't protect against bumble bees...Our offense will be a strictly run offense...Left, right, up the gut...USC...We will be lucky to score 3 points...Our scoring streak might finally come to an end...663-3 final...GL

Also thinking of another chalk... NM-14/SDSU...

I think the Aztecs are eating too much peyote. That might explain it.

OK...word is that WSU's #2, Lopina practiced today and will be ready for the game on Saturday...I don't think it matters, as he's not that good either...It's really not a step up from Wagner, who came in last week...only difference is that with Wagner, we don't throw the ball...It could be 3rd and 30 and we'd still run...With Lopina, we'll throw, which just gives more opportunites for USC to get a pick 6...I'm liking USC -42 even more now...

If it's any less of a concern for you, know that I can't rate this one too highly because we don't know if it's Zona's lack of skill players or just having hard times on the road that lead to their 2 losses. Cal has them beat on the field, player for player in most cases but Zona hasn't lost at home. There are some mitigating factors. I figure that it's Zona's lack of good competition that's lead to their 4-2 record. Honestly, I thought they had a chance to be 6-0 at this point in the season but they dropped 2 games to teams I figured them to beat. That plus the level of competition this week compared to every other opponent prior to this week is what this play is based on. They probably are not as good as their record indicates.

To Arizona's defense they should be 5-1..

They had the ball inside the 5 yard line three times only to get FGs against Stanford.

I don't think that means they should be 5-1, it means they can't get the ball into the end zone.

conan,

I'm on Arizona as well...I think Best will play too, but how prone to fumbling is he going to be with a right arm that was recently hyper-extended?...also, Longshore has issues with his back and Cal lacks quality playmaking WR's and TE's (as opposed to last year)...they have been tested one time on the road (WSU doesn't count) and they failed miserably...I really think Arizona got caught looking ahead last week against an underrated Stanford team...just my two cents bro...

Always appreciate your input pags regardless of who's side you like.

I see Cal as a team that's still coming together with a lot of talent. I see Zona as a team with a misleading record because of the weak schedule they've played. On top of that, they lost 2 games I figured them to win. So they may not be as good as their record indicates.

In any event this game seems to be the crossroads for both with the winner moving up and the loser going down. I have to like Cal because the are the better team across the board. But Zona is at home where they are undefeated thus far. It's no wonder that people here are divided on this one.

Conan your always $ in the Pac-10 so I would like your input.

I see your on UCLA. Stanford has played a tougher schedule YTD and with 5 games remaining [UCLA, Washngton St, Oregon, USC, Cal] they need to win two of them to become bowl eligible. I think UCLA is one of the two possible winnable games and expect a full effort to win this week. Am I missing something?

JD,

UCLA seems to be on the verge of winning a game because their play over the last few weeks has been improving. I am guessing that this is when they break through against a team with a relatively loose defense, particularly vs the pass. Playing at home is another reason. They play much harder there. I did mention that I wouldn't lay many points because this one will be close but I give the Bruins the edge in this situation though not a big one, but enough to make a play out of it. It's a calculated gamble and I think they will prevail here.

where's all this cal love coming from??? they've had two road games- they squashed wash st and got pummeled at maryland. they seem to be a fall back option for the voters to sneak into the top 25 every week when teams enter and exit. arizona hasnt beaten the greatest teams, but have been one of the more impressive teams at home, i gotta give them the slight edge

Arizona may not be as good as their record indicates but i don't think Cal is either. I like Arizona alot here.

San Jose State is a team that covers every time i bet them. They cleaned up for me last week. But for some reason this week i have a bad feeling about them. Maybe b/c how easy they had it last week.
