The 49ers beat Denver in the SB 55-10. They were called dominant.
The Bears beat the Pats 46-10. They were called dominant.
The Cowboys beat the Bills 52-17. They were called dominant.
The Giants beat the 49ers in the playoffs 49-3. They were called dominant.
Gibbs and his Redskins beat the Rams in the playoffs 51-7. They were called dominant.
The Bears won the title 73-0. They were called dominant.
The Pats win 52-7 and they receive criticism? Only from those with no historical perspective on the game.

Playoff/Super Bowl games are a little different than week 8 regular season games.

You can;t use the Bears in that example.....they WERE trying to run up the score. Halas hated George C. Marshall and ran up the score to get back at him from a previous loss. Here is the story:

Marshall's insistence on keeping in the middle of things, regardless of whatever controversy that might have been caused, may indirectly have led to the 73-0 slaughter his Washington team suffered in the 1940 championship game with the Chicago Bears. Three week earlier, the Redskins had beaten the Bears, 7-3, in a game that ended in a controversy near the Washington goal line. The Bears, feeling they had been robbed of a probable victory, complained bitterly about the officiating.
Marshall responded quickly in the public prints: "The Bears are front-runners. Quitters. They are not a second-half team, just a bunch of cry-babies." Copies of Marshall's remarks were placed in the Bears locker room as the Chicago team prepared for the return match. George Halas had his team at its angry peak just about kickoff time. The Bears scored on the second play from scrimmage and history's worst rout was underway. Many historians feel Marshall's badgering of his opponents played a major role in the historic outcome.

If you don't like getting beat by 50 play some defense. Better yet, stop fumbling on your own 20 yard line...

Nothing wrong with laying 50 in the NFL.

There is something wrong with sucking so bad you get 50 laid.

They didn't run the score up, people just want something to hate about NE and the media will run with it to create a story. As others have said, if you don't want the score to get that high play defense. End of story

The difference is that those teams won playoffs/superbowl games and were called dominant, the Pats have won 8 regular season games. Lets let this thing play itself out before we say that. All it takes is one loss in the playoffs and this season is a HUGE letdown for them.

I've said it before, there is nothing wrong with the Patriots running up the score. There are benefits from what they're doing.

Simply good work ethic. Try your best, all the time.

Another benefit is the fact that they are running up the scores. It demoralises your opponents and puts doubts into the minds of the other teams. They don't to think about just the one opponent that week, they have to think about all opponents they will play for the rest of the season.

Running up the score lets other teams know just how good they are. How many teams won't feel pressure thinking that they will have to score 30-40 points to win the game? How about a defense thinking they have to hold them to 30 or less? You think the pressure is on the Patriots? No, it's on the other teams.

They also play more game situations. They might use the rest of the game as a bit of practice, say going for it on 4th instead of punting, or driving for a TD instead of just running it out. You're on the field, why not use the time productively?

Puts coach in a can't win situation, even kicking field goals may be considered running it up.

Remember when belicheck was a lousy head coach and people couldn't wait in line long enought to suck off Joe Gibbs?

There were some on the radio who were mentioning that perhaps Belichick was running up the score on Gibbs due to some old NFC East blood. Well, I just happened to notice this little tidbit from Belichick's first season as coach of the Browns, in 1991:

Redskins 42, Browns 17

Not sure exactly how the scoring went down in that one, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Belichick had been holding some sort of grudge for 16 years

Paybacks a bitch.

Something else to remember about NE is they are about 100% healthy for the most part on offense which is very important to their winning streak. If Brady, Moss, Welker or Stallworth goes down with a significant injury this team will not look anywhere as good as they do now. I hope like hell they stay healthy but their season can change on 1 play

In College I have a problem with teams running up the score on the "Little Sisters of the poor". Professional Football players making millions of dollars getting their ass kicked!!!! no pitty. Do wonder why you risk getting your starting QB hurt when up by 38, unless he needs the reps?:nohead:

How come nobody shits on Tiger Woods for running up his scores?

Because criticizing Tiger Woods is a real bad idea. This has been historically documented. He doesn't just get back at you. He makes you wish you had never become a professional golfer.

If Brady gets injured for the season, this team doesn't make the playoffs at 8-8. Now that would be funny (not brady getting injured, but not making the playoffs).

Good point. Just like in 2001 Belichick trained and and jockeyed "Seabiscuit" to a win.

Now he is aboard "secretariat". He has to many players on this team that have to be constantly challenged and drilled in their head to "finish".
Randy Moss use to take plays off. Why? Because he was allowed to.

dominanat equals a champion. 8-0 equals a good half of a season.

Exactley. They have won nothing. Ask Tedy Bruschi.Belicheck reminds them of it all the time.
