I rarely agree with Limbaugh on anything, and I realize he has made racist remarks in the past, but I fail to see his espn comments as racist. As my girlfriend and I are currently debating this issue, I would appreciate some input. Thanks

What Rush said was just his opinion. As to his remarks regarding McNabb being overrated, one need only to look at McNabb's on-field performance. Compare his performance to his contract ($100 million), and decide for yourself if he is fairly rated.

Perhaps the better question is: If Michael Irvin or Tom Jackson were white, would they be on the ESPN show? Da gorilla and da pimp. Neither of whom, by the way, had the balls to tell Limbaugh (what they thought of his opinion) face-to-face.

methinks - I think the skit that was on Saturday night this weekend summed it ALL up.

"Rush Limbaugh may be going to Jail for abusing prescription drugs..and he was a bit nervous as he had just PISSED OFF allot of black guys with his football commentary"

When the boxing press (who were mostly white) played up Gerry Cooney or Tommy Morrison as the next "great white hope", did that mean they were racist towards whites?

Rush's comments were not racist. They were strictly opinions. Was Dusty Baker's comments about white people not having a skin color condusive to playing baseball in the sun? NO! There is no difference between the 2 statements. They were both opinions.

However, because of the double standard in this country white people get crucified if they say anything that might even be close to being interpreted as a racist statement.

It's very unfair but the media and other governement officials are going to make a big deal out of it so they can get more support from the black public.

Now before I get labled a racist, let me clarify that this is just my opinion. I am not a racist.

For once I agree with KMan. Rush was saying the media was racist, nothing he said was racist. I also agree 100% - there is a HUGE double standard in this country.

Lander,

He was saying the media went easy on Mcnabb because he is black.

How do you interpret that as being racist towards blacks?

i don't think the comments were racist. i think he would have more people on his side if instead of saying: "...he gets a free pass because the media wants to see a black quarterback succeed..."

he would have said "...he gets a free pass because people in the media are very hesitant to critize a black quarterbakc for fear of being called a racist..."

that's the way i see it anyway. i personally feel that mcnabb is overrated. there are many qbs with better stats and the reason (in my opinion) that the eagles have advanced far into the playoffs the past two years is due to the defense, as rush indicated.

I didn't mean that the media was racist towards blacks, rather that Limbaugh perceived the media as reverse-racists.

If it wasn't about race, why didn't Rush Limbaugh just say Donovan McNabb was overrated and leave it at that?

If it wasn't about race, why didn't Rush Limbaugh just say the media play favorites and McNabb is one of their favorites and leave it at that?

That and this report from The Boston Globe's Ron Borges

If it wasn't about race, why didn't Rush Limbaugh mention that white quarterbacks such as Brian Griese and Jake Plummer seem to have been equally overrated not long ago by the same national media that supposedly so loves McNabb?

charlie, no one is saying "it wasn't about race"...we're saying it wasn't "racist". you can comment about race without being a racist, can't you?

by the way this whole thing is being handled and discussed...maybe you can't.

I thought i was discussing it. I am saying it WAS about race. And yes, I realize you can comment about race without being a racist. One of the things about posting on a forum is you can't tell about a person's TONE. But isn't it funny how "discussing" things such as RACE and RELIGION bring about such a PASSIONATE response?

Rush's comments weren't even close to
being racist.

It's a friggen joke now, that in this
"politically correct" society, one can't
speak their mind w/out some dickweed
saying they should lose their job.

What a bunch of total BS.

charlie, yes it does seem that race, religion and politics seem to get everyone riled up more than most topics. the difference i see between the three topics is that if i have a stance on religion or politics that most would consider extreme or very politically incorrect, they might shake there heads and call me things like "an extremist" or "out of touch", etc. but, if i say something involving race that is far from extreme but politically incorrect, they call me a racist.

of the three, it seems that when race is brought up, the least lee-way (sp?) is given.
