I agree that there are many who can't handle it, but your theory that EVERYONE gets beat has no room for the card counters, sports sharps and excellent poker players like my grandfather. It may be your experience, but when you apply it to the universe you are making a ridiculous, broad stroke assertion.

"Nearly" everyone who gambles gets beat!!!! All the best FSB!!!Great move in realizing you have a problem and getting help :103631605

this will definately be a HUMBLING EXPERIENCE FOR YOU and just like anything in life

THIS WILL BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR YOU. first off may i suggest after you read this thread call your dad up and tell him you want to talk to him (meet him in person instead of the phone or email) he will respect you tremendously

i have been where you are, and done that. i went to G.A. (EXPECT TO GET A NICE BLACK BOOK WITH THE 12 STEPS TO RECOVERY) AND AS YOU CAN TELL IT HAS HELPED ME. it has helped me become a smarter gambler in many ways. when is 21 or 22 same thing as you in major debt. (betting on credit, down about 15 thousand with no way of paying, back in 1983..damm so long ago)
I went to E.A.P on my job employee assistant program. they sent me down to miami florida to get me away from my environment to a 30 DAY rehab. to make a long story short about 10 days in the rehab( it was a place for many addictions gambling ,eating disorder, drugs, you name it. but anyways 10 days in i shittt you not, i started pitching fukkin quarters against the wall with some -one else..unbelievable
\the next day i woke with opened eyes, realizing wow i'm fukked up and need some help. anyways after the 30 days were complete i went back to new york stopped gambling for a couple of years going to g.a. meeting, had a SPONSER (boy that was fun the guy told me to quit my job because i can see the sports scores and odds in the paper. i was working as a pressman) he also told me to stop my 401 k plan because that is gambling. i told him i do not live in fukking penn p.a. (AMISH) i met an ex bookie i worked for him working the phones /also being an agent . now i mostly play post -up very rarely with credit.
also with the girlfriend ..ohh yeahh she was there to support meof ra few months than she had enough ( you know i could not go out all the time buying things )

you ever need to speak to someone my email is
lennyt44@yahoo.com

trust me life is a learning experience, just another step on that ladder.
hopefully you will take many more steps.
my best

Good luck FSB. Coincidentally, when I was 24, the exact same thing happened to me. I had a bad, bad week (damn hockey), and had to hit up my parents to pay my local bookie. Like you, they could afford to help me, and it wasn't the end of the world, nor was it 'rock bottom'.

But I never gambled on sports to that same extent again. Like Dante, it is now a hobby for me, which is strange, because I seem to have such an addictive personality regarding other things in my life. Just not sports betting anymore.

I never did the G.A. thing. I didn't really need to back then, as I was broke and had no money for betting anyway. But I imagine that G.A. would/could be something helpful for you.

Again, best of luck, and let us know how things turn out.

you see, to me its not a sad story its life, its part of life. as you read my post it has made me a controlled and smarter gambler ( i was also booking for a few years) that made me smarter

recreational.. na but the money i use for gambling is up front money or put aside money just for that purpose to gamble with.
my motto is you can always make money to be honest with you dante i would not change one part of my life when it came to the gambling aspectof it

YOU LIVE and LEARN and be blessed for having great family support and good health

you want to hear a sad story my brother went through a divorce and she took him to the cleaners , that's a sad story

funny thing is not in the least and that may sound odd because once i was cleared of debt. i still had a full time job making good money and the hungry fukkin vultures like they are creditors start of sending me forms for credit cards(same fukkin place that i filed bankruptcy for go figure)

and guess what i heard this is the last month before the new law goes into effect( november i believe)

i had to re- establish credit which took awhile. people were telling me i could not get credit for 7 years ,thats bull shitt a couple of years at most, if you have a full time job

I reccomend a $200 4 team parlay to solve your problem(and throw in a money line dog to sweeten it). It worked for me - thank god for Rutgers!

I hope it helps. I once went to a meeting just to see what is was like. I realized after being there I didn't have a problem compared to these people and have never thought of going back....Some people just shouldn't gamble. If you are unable to take a few months break from gambling whenever you need to, you shouldn't be in it at all. I take breaks all the time and not for financial reasons.

Funk, a word to the wise -- don't walk into a meeting and try to compare yourself to others, you are there for a reason, in this case gambling has made your life a mess. Just because you may not look as down and out as others doesn't mean you don't belong in that meeting. Simply remember, if gamblig has made your life unamanageable, you will be in the right place when you take your seat at a GA meeting. The first step towards getting better is admitting you have a problem, by going to GA you can take this very crucial first step.
