It seems to me like Sam is trying a little too hard to make a point here. I think if he wanted to be a gay football player it would not be much of an issue...... but if he wants to be a gay icon that happens to play football it will. He seems to really like attracting attention to himself...... which is not really what a 7th round fringe NFL prospect needs to be doing. It seems likely that the NFL intends to get him on a roster one way or the other...... but being a gay icon will not actually get him on the field. Perhaps if he had spent more time preparing for the combine and less time doing interviews he might have run a little faster than a 4.91 forty (which would be a good time for an offensive lineman).
