Week 9 plays

Another slow week, with single games on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Here's what I'm playing:

Calgary/Toronto U 53.5 - Would have liked it a little more at 54, but I didn't pull the trigger until the total had dropped a half-point. I still like the play, though. Teams can score points on Calgary if they can run the ball, but the Argos are below average in that part of the offense. They're sub-par on offense, period, so I don't expect them to contribute much to the scoring.

A warning: I have been rotten with my CFL Under bets this season. I think I'm something like 0-4 on them.

Hamilton at Edmonton (-7) - I like the way the Eskimos have looked lately. Ricky Ray has been solid and the team can score a lot of points. On the other side of the field, I think the magic has worn off for Hamilton. (And it's a real sign of how bad things have been for them over the last many years that a 4-3 record is magic.) They've got a ground game, but Edmonton is above-average at stopping the run. If Hamilton is forced to turn to the passing game, it would be a long night for them. They may try and grind it out on the ground all night, while Ray and the Esks steadily pull away.

"Another slow week"
CFL is missing the boat.
Play all week before NFL and get some US punters to watch and bet.

Nothing going on but preseason in NFL.
Football jumkies will watch anything and the CFL is strangely fun.

Dumb phucks!

Sorry to rant in you thread but, it sucks.

Good luck AllAm

Not as bad as the CFL having their own Sunday double header going up directly against Weeks 1 & 2 of the NFL season. I'm sure they'll win that battle :p The only people who will end up watching the CFL those weeks are douchebags like me.

The CFL really does some questionable marketing (or lack of marketing). They'll never get much of a following in the States -- the expansion disaster underscored that -- but they could get some if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to find their games. Their best option would be to do whatever is necessary to get on a widely available network in the USA. The second-best option would be to make all games available on free Webcast.

At least they are getting more and more US exposure as each year goes by. They are definitely taking baby steps forward in that regard. They are also doing a better job of getting their games on satellite radio, so that people everywhere can listen in.

I think once you get both college & NFL going, it's damn near impossible to get anyone in the US to follow. I mean, there is just no room left for the CFL with those two giants there. Their only hope is for a massive increase in degenerate gamblers.

At least the Grey Cup was on live on a half decent network... and as long as Chris Berman is working, he will always try his best to make a couple CFL references a year.

Their satellite radio coverage is only on Sirius Canada, though. I can't get it on my US account.

Ah, did not know that. It really is a shame for you few Americans who are actually interested in the league.

I wonder if that video on demand feature on tsn.ca works for those living outside of Canada? If so, you can watch the games in decent quality from start to finish, usually as soon as they are over on live tv.

I'm not sure it would work without going through a proxy based in Canada, and watching a game replay just doesn't have the same appeal. I believe the CFL has some PPV webcast deal, but I don't bother with that. I had a desktop sitting around that I don't use anymore, so I stripped it way down, put in a lightweight semi-pirate version of XP and hooked it up to my living room TV. It's perfect for watching Web video, and I rarely have problems finding a live stream.

Not as easy as turning on regular TV, but not too bad.

Have you tried watching the games online? Sites like channelsurfing.net, justintv etc may give you the CFL games you want. Ustream.tv is another one that may have it as well.

That's what I do, LordCC, watch online. There are a couple of regular streamers with high-quality feeds. The setup I have works pretty well. When I make the picture full screen, I'd say the quality is about as good as when I was a kid and we picked up everything via outside antenna.
