Hope I'm onto something this week. There seems to be a few factors that ought to play themselves out by the time this evening rolls around... to wit:
CAL/UCLA U37 (2H) or there about -- A much lower scoring game than people think since UW tore CAL a new one last week. Time for CAL's defense to show up said Art Kaufman, Sonny Dykes new DC out of North Carolina via Texas Tech. These teams have been feuding privately for a while regardless of any notable rivalries elsewhere in the state of California. It's probably just a "UC" thing. CAL can be dangerous to the Bruins even when CAL isn't up to speed and losing everywhere else. I'm not sure I can remember the last time UCLA beat the Bears in Berserkeley. Was it in this millennium? I also think Oregon put the Bruins in their place LW. Hey Sonny Dykes, how about all that UCLA hype earlier in the season? Did you buy into it? Last but not least, how about all that doom and gloom heaped onto Berkeley before the season got under way? OH MY. Talk about one big-time reversal of fate. Count me in as one of those who was fooled. I got hung up today or I would have wagered the game total to go under 73 but a mere TD was borderline for a sides wager. If Hundley gets sacked another 8 times today, the 2H under wager is golden. It could happen... yes it could. Just keep an eye on UCLA's OL if you've got a stomach that can handle it.
UW+21/Oregon -- Oregon's OL has looked much better than when Jake Fisher was out of the lineup so I don't see a problem for the Ducks in a survival sense, but UW has slowly begun looking more and more like a Chris Petersen team as the season progresses. I'd feel a lot better about backing the Ducks and laying the lumber if they had all of their starters back on the OL including Tyler Johnstone and Andre Yuretagoyena who are still sidelined with injuries. UW happens to be ranked 3rd in the FBS in sacks with 24 of them, 10 of those belonging to Hau'oli Kikahab the Huskies MLB who leads the nation. That should somewhat limit Mariota and Oregon's offense to a couple of TD's less than the usual and that's probably all UW will need to keep this one within 3 TD's. It's also a good thing that this game is being played in Eugene.
Stanford/ASU U54 -- Just a 4-point spread Stanford needs to lay here. 13-7 or 13-10 isn't much of a final score with enough elbow room to predict a spread winner so I'll just leave it at that with an under wager on the game total. What is wrong with the public leaving a game total as high as it still is with Stanford almost guaranteed to hold whoever they play to 17 points at the MOST !! I have heard that Taylor Kelly, that old rust bucket will be ready to play today and his joints might be a bit creaky... if not they will play Mike Berkovici who has yet to taste the Stanford defense. And what about Kevin Hogan, can his side make it to 20 or dare I say 27 to chip in their share of the game total? He didn't practice every day last week so we'll also see what shakes out there. Stanford's #2 receiver Devon Cajuste had his bell rung last week and David Shaw has said he expects to sit Cajuste on the bench today as a protective measure. While he sits, Shaw's TE Austin Hooper will also sit this one out for some unknown reason. With what little scoring punch in an aerial sense the Cardinal has to begin with, who is left for Hogan to use for scoring points?
