might as well start this one now. my 216 person pool has 80 left - woulda been 42 if arizona knew how to hold on to the football inside the falcons 10-yard-line numerous times.

pops said this is a tough week - and i agree.

the ones that stand out as picks to consider are:

Pitt (Hosting Cincy)
Philly (@ Da Bears)
GB (Hosting NYG)

so far i have taken: Stl/No/Denver

i'm sure this will elicit some responses - but this week put me on:

Green Bay

NYG is a nice story - but so far they beat an overrated Washington team and a pathetic Cleveland team - both @ NYG.

GB is now 1-2 and back at home for a game they MUST win, even though it is week 4. i LOVE the fact GB got killed sunday and lost the week before that at home against Da Bears for i think we get a solid performance here from GB.

this one might not be easy - but when the game is over, GB will walk off the field the winner - and that is all i care about.

GB is my Week 4 pick!

I agree, I watched the NYG against Washington, and eventhough Washington had 20 turnovers, they still should have won. I look for a hungry GB this week. Easy choice:toast:

Week #4

With Grossman out for the Bears, I just cant see how Phil could not win straight out. I believe most of the 14 left in my pool will see it the same way though, so im not sure i want to be out on a limb with some of the other tight games.

GB - Bret, just like all the other aging QB that tried to hang on for two long.

Pitt - Up and down, never know which team will show up

Balt - Very good D, will prob win

Carolina - Good D, and a good possible choice

Phil - Will require a major even for them not to win, but my biggest rule in this pool is never never take the fav, and that is why almost 1000 went out with mia last year and 1100 this year with GB

pitbull, hear what you say, but 900+ felt the same way when mia was a 17 point fav last year vs houston, and 1100 said no way the pack could lose against the bears at home. Just cant bring myself to go with the biggest fav when so much money is at stake. In the NFL the cant happen do happen, will prob go with carolina, and sweat it out like i did with the viks last sunday. tks for the imput

p.s no one ever wins this type of pools by taking the #1 fav

in my survivor pool we started with 1589 and now we are down to 695. I had 2 entries and both are still alive. i used St louis, NE and seattle in both. So i am making the same tough decision this week. I am thinking about the jets, GB and of course the eagles. If grossman was playing i would probably split it up between Philly and the jets. but with grossman out i am leaning towards taking Philly in both.

and since a good percentage of the pool has already taken the eagles and plenty of others will be on a couple of other teams i dont think you will be facing a TON of eagles backers (not to mention those people that remember the bears beating the packers)

I have used Philly/N Orl/Seattle

I was looking at Green Bay at home vs NYG
NY Jets at Miami
Balt at home vs KC

The Baltimore pick is scary but KC has NO WR and really only Priest and Gonzalez on offense. Just think that a Monday night game under the lights will have the Baltimore D rise and essentially shut down only two players. KC defense sucks and probably won't be able to stop Jamal and probably even allow Boller to look like pro bowl material. It scares me a little so I probably wont take it but what do you all think about it.

I will probably take Jets/GBay but thought Balt was an interested pick.

I was leaning towards GB early in the week, but after watching Miami the last two weeks, I am now leaning towards the Jets. Brett Favre as in the last few years have his built in excuse ready, just in case of a bad game. I like the way the Jets are playing, so I think I will try them this week.

I think Oakland is a solid play this week as well. There D has vastly improved over last year and with Collins a tthe helm, I think they put some pts up this weekend.

Already used - Rams/Saints/Falcons -- Oak this week.

i would think twice - then three times about this. the raiders are AWFUL on the road, having lost either some ungodly amount in a row or having won only a few games out of a lot played - and one of my top rules for this is don't take a road team unless they are playing the absolute dregs of the nfl and they are one of the nfl's elite - and that is not the case here. i can see better weeks for oakland - like week 11 hosting SD and coming off a BYE. ok - so your pool might not last that long - or you either - but i've rather have oakland in week 11 - and if i was gonna make a pick on the oak/hosuton game for my pool - sorry to say this - but i'd be on the other side - Houston!

Easy Winkster. The pool I am in is i loss for 10$ and 2 for $20. I like to take chances until i have one loss. Oakland is not that bad of a play here. Collins will have better numbers that Rich and actually throw the ball down field more often. The Raider run D is sweet this year, and Carr will throw a few picks. Houston is not all that tough a plce to play in.

I too like to take home teams, but there are too few options this week. I am not very confident in Ben and Pitts this week, that leaves me GB. And i can use them down the road, Rather take Collins and Da Raiders now.

In a one loss tourney, i would go with GB Philly.

We'll see how they make out.

winky.....

Sep 30 Brett Favre has a deep, nasty bruise on the back of his left leg and a left shoulder that seems to be getting progressively worse—ailments that have him listed as probable on the injury report for this Sunday's game against the Giants. The Packers' quarterback told the Green Bay News Chronicle that the bruise on his hamstring is "a little bit bigger than a softball," adding "you know I couldn't run before and I definitely can't run now." As for his shoulder, Favre said: "I've just been hanging on with it for as long as I can." He also told the paper that he regrets not having it surgically repaired in the offseason. "It seems like it has gotten worse and worse, which leads me to believe that there is probably something more structurally wrong than maybe I think there is."

Anyone Still Alive

Our did you all lose taking the top 3 fav, the easiest way to die in these, especially taking any undefeted teams.

Were down to 10 in my pool, lost 2 more with the seahawks (one of the 3 teams that I wound not have bet on).

If you thought week #4 was tough, this is the toughest yet. Not many will pass up jets, patriots or eagles, so i'm looking at Viks, rams, chief or lions as considerations. :drink:

Pops, I'm still in one (a small one), we haven't had the numbers drop as rapidly as some of these others, and i'm sure its not due lots of smart picks, just dumb luck.. Thinking of Denver, still haven't used NE, thinking I must wait on them.. gl to anyone still left in one..

were at 10, i know that almost all will be on the jets. our's is different in that we can use any team we want each week, that is prob why so many are out as most tend to pick the biggest fav. I did go with the 2nd most fav this week, eagles, because of all the panther injuries, but they could lose as well, as a week off sometimes makes a team sloppy. my next two choices would have been KC, but i just love taking a road fav. i also liked the rams but did not want to wait until monday. good luck
