Taking a 'look back' at Week 3 college football.
*AP Poll: 1. Clemson...2. Alabama...3. Georgia...4. LSU...5. Oklahoma...6. Ohio State
7. Notre Dame...8. Auburn...9. Florida...10. Utah. (I would take Auburn and Florida out
and replace them with Texas and Wisconsin)
*Ohio State has outscored opponents 138-31 so far under new coach Ryan Day who had
only four starters returning on offense.
*Kansas State won its first road game over a Power 5 nonconference opponent since 2011
with the win over Mississippi State.
*Arizona State has given up only 3 TDs in three games and none of their opponents have
scored in the first three quarters.
*Because of the weather, Iowa and Iowa State shorten their halftime but the game still took
5 hours, 53 minutes to complete.
*With a new AD, the next four weeks could very well determine USC's football coach's future
and it starts with Utah Friday night in primetime TV.
*Illinois paid Eastern Michigan 1 million dollars for the game Saturday and lost. Lovie Smith
my ass!
*The biggest surprise of the season so far is the emergence of LSU quarterback Joe Burrow as
a legitimate NFL prospect.
*Heading into this week's big game against Wisconsin, Michigan ranks 12th in the Big Ten in
scoring offense and 9th in total offense.
*In the Troy/Southern Miss game Saturday, both teams scored 21 points in 36 seconds. That
has to be a record.
*Temple had not one, not two, but 3 goal line stands in the 20-17 win over Maryland. The Terps
were just 6 of 27 on 3rd and 4th down attempts.
*Take a bow Les Miles...Kansas snapped a 48 game road losing streak by defeating Boston College
48-24.
*Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks is probably lost for the season with a dislocated ankle. His
backup Kyle Trask did a nice job in the comeback win over Kentucky.
*If there is a better RB in the SEC than Georgia's D'Andre Swift...I haven't seen him. Swift is the
real deal.
*The Citadel visited Georgia Tech as a 27 point underdog and won the game 27-24 in overtime.
Georgia Tech paid the Cadets $400,000 for embarrassing them.
*Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence threw for 395 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the win
over Syracuse. After throwing just 4 ints all of last year, he has thrown 5 already this season.
*Washington State continues to look good on offense as senior QB Anthony Gordon threw for 440
yards and 3 touchdowns in win over Houston.
*UCLA drops to 0-3 on the season and have lost 12 of 15 games under second year coach Chip
Kelly.
*Gutwrenching loss for Kentucky to Florida. The Wildcats could have sealed the game on several
occasions but simply blew it away.
*Central Florida easily took down Stanford 45-27 posting 545 offensive yards and leading 31 points
at halftime.
*South Carolina freshman QB Ryan Hilinski threw for 324 yards and 2 TDs in his second college start
against Alabama. Lots of poise and potential with this young kid.
*Though Iowa State gained 105 more yards than Iowa, the Hawkeyes did just enough to stay un-
beaten in their 18-17 win.
*Alabama rushed for just 77 yards against South Carolina snapping a streak of 69 straight games
with at least 100 yards rushing.
*Auburn piled up 467 yards rushing against a high school team Saturday with three players going
for over 100 yards.
*Michigan State lost to Arizona State after making a field goal to tie the game but had too many
players on the field...then missed the second try. Man...I would hate to be the special team's coach
this week!
*Utah had 11 penalties for 105 yards against mighty Idaho State Saturday. Don't know about you
but I'm just not sold on Utah at this time.
*Seven different players scored touchdowns in Georgia's pounding of Arkansas State. The Dawgs
are one impressive team and will have a chance to prove it against Notre Dame this week.
*Shout out to 3-0 Arizona State. Must say I thought hiring Edwards was a terrible move by the
school. So far...he's been impressive.
*Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts had another big game leading the Sooners over UCLA. Hurts passed for
three TDs and ran 14 times for 150 yards and a score.
*SALUTE: Air Force 30-23.....Army 31-13....Navy 42-10. Love our military teams!
Big games this week: #7 Notre Dame at #3 Georgia and #11 Michigan at #13 Wisconsin.
GL men.
