Not so much a misleading score, but I just watched one game this weekend and here's my observations from PSU-Rutgers.
Penn State D-Line completely manhandled Rutgers O-Line
Rutgers D-Line completely manhandled Penn State O-Line
Penn State hadn't done anything significantly rushing vs UCF and Akron and Rutgers D-Line wasn't overly impressive vs Washington State and Howard so it's safe to say Penn State's offensive line is extremely weak. When they get in vs some of the more talented Big Ten teams, I don't see how they are going to score any points. Franklin has been coming up with quick passes and gadget plays to move the ball. They'll probably be a 3-4 point dog at home to Ohio State. A ~7 pt road dog at Michigan. A 7-10 pt home dog to Michigan State. I don't see how they win ATS in any of these three games unless the O-Line gets better FAST. It's unfortunate that their line is so weak because Penn State has lots of skill position talent. Hackenberg looks like he could be an elite pocket-passer QB but he's not mobile enough to handle a rush. His feel for the pass rush is also poor and he takes a lot of unnecessary sacks instead of throwing it away. They do have a couple good play maker WR's and Decent RBs too. But they were rendered useless for most of the game because of poor pass blocking. Their center in particular (Mangiro) was completely over matched. Against big, tough DT's, it won't even be fair.
The Penn State defense has looked decent but I'm hesitant to give them too much credit. The Front 7 is ahead of the secondary. Rutgers had 5 INTs but they were entirely created by either 1. Poor Rutgers WR play and 2. Intense pass rush/poor pass blocking. Vs a good offensive line and good QB, I think the secondary will get sliced up. They are now 3-0, but there's lots of against-the-spread fade value here on this team when they face tougher defenses.
