As mentioned in earlier posts I don't play much in Week 1. However, there will only be one game on the board that I like. Most of my situational systems don't kick in until the following weeks, especially in conference play. That is one of several variables I usually look at. You can call me Joe Public on this play, but I don't really care and I'll tell you why. The public more than holds their own early on in the season because they like to play bullies. One of the best bullies is Joe Paterno. For instance, let's take a look at Joe Pa's opening game the last two games. He has won the game by a combined score of 125-10 which is insane. His team also has one of the loudest and craziest stadiums in all of football. What impressed me last year was what he did to Oregon State. He beat them 45-14 which turned out to look real impressive later on considering the fact that Oregon State beat USC and was a serious threat to make the ROSE BOWL last year. Why would line be under 30? Akron has played solid ATS wise against the Big 10 usually with big lines. Furthermore, the last time we saw Penn State they got roasted by USC. Akron also returns their QB and some playmakers on offense. However, Penn State has a superior athletic edge on defense to offset this even with some newcomers in the secondary. I expect Penn State to come out fully motivated after a disappointing taste in their mouth from the Rose Bowl loss.
