It is tough trying to figure out the Power 5 conferences and where they stand after just one week, but a few things are obvious. The rundown by conference:
ACC: The ACC still can't defeat the SEC. They went 0-2 against the SEC and 0-2 against ranked teams. Florida State and Georgia Tech look like the best teams so far, but that can change quickly.
Big 10: This conference now becomes the Big 2. The West was just terrible. Wisconsin looked terrible. Nebraska loses to a 2nd string QB on the last play of the game. Minnesota played well, but could not defeat a not so strong TCU squad. Michigan loses again to a Pac 12 team. Penn State looked terrible against Temple. Well, the Illinois teams did well. So it is Ohio State and Michigan State for the championship.
Big 12: The two conference favorites both won, but failed to cover and looked terrible in doing so. TCU does not have the offense people thought they had, and Baylor has no defense at all. Oklahoma may be the best team in this mediocre conference. Texas is still the biggest joke in any conference. The Big 12 had better hope that a team like Florida State or Notre Dame does not catch fire, or they will probably be shut out of the playoffs again.
Pac 12: A major disappointment. Oregon has no defense and will give up tons of points. Terrible coaching. The rest of the North saw offenseless Stanford losing to Northwestern, Washington losing to Boise State, and Washington State lose to Portland State, whoever they are. The South saw USC and UCLA do their thing and Arizona take a tough win and possibly lose a key player. It looks like the South, and possibly the CC will be decided in Los Angeles.
SEC: This conference looks to be the best by far. All of the good teams won and all except Auburn won rather easily. 'Bama, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Arkansas looked very good in the West, and the entire East minus Vandy (the only loser so far) looked good. It should be a great season in the SEC.
