Phoenix at Chicago

Phoenix visits the Blackhawks tonight as a +126 dog at 5 dimes.

This matchup up of 2 up and comers will set an early tone as which of these young lineups are REALLY the young team to watch this season. Phoenix has already beaten 2 good defensive teams in Columbus and @Anaheim and have been idle since Sunday. Chicago OTOH, are winless in 3 so far and may be pressing already. The Hawks figure to be a heavy consensus to get their first win tonight but I'm skeptical. Their goaltending so far has not been cutting it giving up 10 goals in 3 games. THAT...with 2 no.1 tenders on the roster. Phoenix seems to be already in sync and feeling good about them selves and Gretzky surely knows how to feed their ego's. I like the visiting Yotes tonight to keep their roll especially with the Hawks playing as they have so far.

More to come.

Nashville +157 [60 minutes] at Dallas

Nice juicy dog in play here IMO as the Preds have already beat the Stars once this season. Dallas tried to muscle it up that first game and found out the hard way Nashville is not a team to fuck with old school as Tootoo, Hamuis and the rest of this team wont be intimidated by Avery, Ott and Morrow bullying. No Arnott tonight but i feel that will only tighten up this already tough defence. Dallas draftee Dan Ellis is 2-0 with a shutout already on his resume against his former employer and at +157 I'll take a shot he has another good one in him. Stars were 0-5 on the PP last game vs. Nashville and are 0-35 of late against them. Preds have taken 4 of last 5 vs Dallas. I'll take a shot here at this price.

Edmonton at Anaheim -.5 +111

Big clash tonight as this heated rivalry continues. Even though Brian Burke may be getting exposed as the GM he truly is [he didn't build that Cup winning team, Bryan Murray did] ...I believe the Ducks are the play tonight. Burke trading away Schneider, losing Penner and having to regroup the team to fit under the cap seems to be effecting the teams ice play early. None the less, Edmonton has only beaten a poor Avs team by a goal at home in which they were clearly outplayed and out shot and going into the 3rd weekend of the season without a loss may have the Oil thinking their a much better team than they actually are. Where the Duck are winless so far losing to the undefeated Sharks, an up and coming Phoenix club and just coming off a fresh in their head embarassing loss last night to the lowly Kings. What better game to get their head out of their asses than the heated Edmonton rivalry. Ducks come out focused tonight as they were no doubt looking ahead last night to tonights tilt. Not a big Burke fan but can't help but feel the Ducks are the play tonight in this spot.

Lay the .5 goal at 5dimes and take the plus money here.

With you on Phoenix...and you are making me think hard about the team total as well.

Still waiting on a better line with Nashville,( which may or may not come).

But on the other side of Anaheim. I like Edmonton tonight and can excuse the Oiler poor performance in the first game due to a lengthy layoff and first night nerves. Ducks playing their 3rd in 4 will have difficulty controlling Edmonton's speed. Should result in more PPs and Edmonton is loaded with the man advantage.

Best of luck Bushay...thank you for this well thought out post.

Now that Burke has his mangina Noniss down there to do his math he may do better.

Do you have any feel for the total in that game?

By the way, on a totally irrelevant point. I was listening to a segment that Phil Esposito had yesterday on XM in regard to the passing of Alexie Cherepanov. He said something like....

"......and they didn't have any fibulators. It sounds like the same thing that happened to Carrie Fischer."

Although I have to admit he did correct himself a moment later and say...."err Jiri Fischer ."

After hearing this, I thought I'd need a fibulator.

LOL!

Gotta love Phil. When I was a kid he was my favorite player. In fact I even mailed him a letter and he sent me back an autographed photo.
Even bought a bumper sticker as I got a bit older in life.

"JESUS SAVES....
And Esposito scores on the rebound!"

Too bad no one's got the balls to tell him he's not that good a commentary guy.

I'm a firm believer that emotional games play a big part in disrupting a teams winning...losing streaks. Lot's of factors involved here tonight. Pronger, Penner, Burke/Lowe love fest. Anaheim's in a funk and needs something to take their mind off their poor play. Oil are that ingredient. These 2 play with playoff type intensity when they meet. Let's let Edmonton PROVE that they can capitalize and are a good team this year before we risk too much bank. They scored 3 at home on Peter Budaj. Giguere is at a different level I believe. The Duck lost to the KINGS last night. How motivated can that make you? Should be a good close game and I definetly think Ducks bring their A game tonight win or lose. Good Luck to you too Vic.

No, I really don't. But if's Vic's correct and the Ducks come in tired from the 3/4 and playing last night and flying from L.A. to Edm. And Giguire is not ON, I can see it going over the total. But were looking at 2 good goalies and 2 good defensive clubs in an emotional game. My initial thoughts are not seeing a wide open game of any sorts. Good luck either way.

Espo sounds like he's had a few pints each afternoon before he goes on the air.

I got 'ya. I think there may be a few Rxers here in the hockey forum that are as well.

I heard Phil the other day and he couldn't remember rather big yet mundane details of his career (coaches, linemates, etc).
