DB's THOUGHTS:

Jordan Lyles makes his Brewers debut here. I think Lyles would feel more pressure if he were pitching in front of the home crowd, so being on the road tonight should be a plus for him. Lyles has faced these A's hitters a couple times before, and handled them rather well.

Brett Anderson is a ground ball pitcher. His 52.4% GB% ranks 10th among starters who have thrown at least 50 innings this season. And when he does give up a fly ball, he's better than most at keeping it in the park. His HR/FB rate is 13.3%, better than the league average for starters (15.4%).

Milwaukee has only averaged 3.9 runs in its nine road night games against lefty starters, with the Under going 6-3.

The Brewers pen is very solid, ranking 6th in both K/BB and WHIP. The A's pen owns a decent 11th-ranked WHIP. But what I like best about this Oakland bully is its #1 HR/FB rate (9%).

We also get Nick Mahrley behind the plate. Mahrley has shown a strong Under bias.

PLAY UNDER.

The Oakland Athletics carved out a walkoff win against the Milwaukee Brewers in a close one last night. The A's held on for their 61st win of the season to give them sole possession of the final wildcard in the American League.
Tonight's pitching matchup is very intriquing. The Brewers are sending Jordan Lyles to the mound as he comes over from the Pirates for added depth since all the Brewers starting pitchers are hurt. His pitching numbers over the last month are too horrific to even post here so we'll spare you having to read them. What you do need to know is that a change of scenery could be exactly what he needed. After all, he was playing for the Pirates. He also spent last year in the bullpen for the Brewers during their playoff run. That means there is a certain familiarity with the clubhouse and team. Think of it as a chance to be reborn for Jordan.
Now he gets thrown into a tough spot on the road with a new/old team. His teammates however, have quite the history against the person taking the mound for the A's tonight. That means that Jordan might actually see some run support for a change.
Brett Anderson hits the rubber for the A's and the Brewers have hammered Anderson in the past. The current roster is hitting a combined .432 with a .479 OBP against him in 44 at-bats. There are six players on the Milwaukee roster who are hitting greater than .500 vs Anderson in their careers. He hasn’t exactly been killing it either. Anderson goes into this matchup with an ERA of 5.19 in his last three outings.
Also note that he hans't exactly loved pitching at home as Anderson has been below average at home with a 4.75 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.
Jordan Lyles has a chance to succeed here. Lefties have a .416 wOBA against him this season. Righties only have a .311 wOBA and the A’s are pretty right-handed-heavy on the whole. Brett Anderson is a contact management guy and the current Brewers hitters have had plenty of success making contact against him.
I'm betting the Brewers to take one on the road tonight and finally provide Jordan Lyles with some run support. This is the perfect spot for him to rebound.
Go with the Brewers who provide great value on the ML tonight

Ryu v. Marquez
These 2 teams have used the first 2 games to take turns walloping the opponent once each, and in today's rubber match the great hitting Dodgers get to play a nice afternoon game in Coors and face German Marquez! In his last 4 starts at home he has pitched just about 21 innings he has given up 27 runs and 32 hits ALL BY HIMSELF! In the remaining 15 innings his fellow pitchers from the Rockies 'pen gave up 14 more runs!
This means without taking into account anything to do with Ryu or the Rockies offense I just need an excellent Dodgers lineup in HUGE Coors outfield to baaaarely eclipse HALF the average of the previous 4 opponents who visited...scoring 41 runs in those games.
I really really like the Dodgers to have half the 6 in the top of the 1st...no lie...and think this getting Over 5.5 might be something Vegas would wish they'd never done...if bettors cared about baseball Damnit!

Rotation #977-978
A’s -120 over Brewers
Anderson/Lyles
The home run power the Brewers have in their bats is neutralized by this big park in Oakland. The A’s have the luxury of going against the newly acquired Jordan Lyles. Lyles was run out of Milwaukee once before and back for a second stint. Brett Anderson might not have the strikeout ability he had when he first came into the league, but I believe he is in better shape than Lyles who has been really bad the last couple of months. Take the A’s.
