Northfield: Wednesday 6/4 Analysis
By Ken Walters
DRF HARNESS

Race 8: $10,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: YOULL THINK OF ME (13th)

Spot Play: KJS JAKEE (4th)

Race 1

(1) CJS VICTORY had the pocket in last but gave way once the leader hit the stretch. Fractions should not be so quick this time and he will be placed in the right spot. (5) TRIPLE G was as wide as any shoe size ever recorded passing the three quarters in last. (2) STOLEN CROWN comes back after a trip to Scioto and need only stay flat to be in this one to the end.

Race 2
(1) WHERE U WAS JAY set a new life mark on the front end in last and should be the one to catch. (9) KATIE AND J should follow the speed from the rail and pocket-sit throughout. (5) FIDGETING HANOVER has flashed modest late speed in some recent tries and might have a surprise in store if the speed falters.

Race 3
(7) WHAT DO YOU WANT has been nothing but sharp in all recent efforts and earns the nod to keep it going. (1) MSYTERY EXPOSED has speed and the rail; will go as far as he can. (5) PASSIONATEPRINCESS races second off the qualifier and looms as a solid threat in well matched field.

Race 4
(7) KJS JAKEE was parked the mile and ran out of juice in the last steps in latest. Will be tough if he finds the rail in the early going. (2) J F COOKIN has been banging at the door in recent races and seems the main threat. (1) GUNNIN FORAFIGHT began salivating when the post positions were announced after five out of six poor posts.

Race 5
(8) MYSTERY RINGER closed stoutly and just missed in last. (6) TIMBOGO made a game try in latest and has been sharp in most recent. (3) MASTERS TRACKSTER should shoot to the top and lead these, but has yet to win this season.

Race 6
(3) MR BAILEY roared home in qualifier to win by open lengths. (1) BEAU JET races second time off the qualifier and was tightened in a pocket-sitting second-place finish. (4) DOOWRAH OMELET was outfinished as the beaten favorite in last and tries again.

Race 7
(1) DEPUTY DYLAN wired a field three back from the six-hole. After three straight poor posts, he will go well from the pole. (9) T P MAXIMUS will suck along all the way and have aim on the top one heading home. (7) CONDOR HALL has late foot and could get lucky if the speed falters.

Race 8
(1) JP ORAZION set a new lifetime mark in last and can hardly be looked past as he seeks his third straight victory. (4) CINNAMON ROLLS was second best to the top one in last and will argue late. (5) CHROME SEELSTER made a very wide rally passing the third panel in last but flattened out.

Race 9
(1) MISS LULU BELLE saw her three-race win streak snapped in last but moves back inside. (7) LASENT hits the board on a regular basis but has only one win in the ledger this year. (5) ANNIES MASTER faced slightly better in last but two prior were good efforts at this level.

Race 10
(3) LITTLE AMOS has suffered broken equipment in two of last three. Race in between was a solid effort facing better. Should have a fighting chance if his keepers check that equipment before the race. (4) TIELER BEA HOTSPUR was a solid second best in last. (8) UNCLE PAT is a twice beaten favorite but faces better.

Race 11
(7) CREDIT SCORE was facing better at The Meadows. Shipped in for last and toured the track. Faces weaker and seems primed to surprise. (6) NEELY SPRING is sharp now and will be hard to beat if the top one comes up short. (4) TRENTS RINGER takes a modest drop and should land a share.

Race 12
(1) HALLIN GATOR made his bid in last and flattened out. He was second best two back and has no excuse this evening. (5) TAKE A WALK drops down a bit and went well at this level a few back. (7) CAN REPEAT put in a decent qualifier after a short rest.

Race 13
(1) YOULL THINK OF ME won for fun in last from the rail and draws it again. (4) CYCLONE ASHORE won three straight before last and was VERY wide coming home in that one. (7) THE CLASSIC Z TAM is sharp now and has late kick.

Race 14
(1) MISTYS DIGNITY has the rail, nails the speed and holds off late closers after two tighteners off the qualifier. (2) CONTRABAND was a solid second in qualifier two back but failed to fire in last. Should be forwardly placed from this spot. (9) HERE COMES WHITEY races first off the qualifier and should use this as a useful tightener.

Race 15
(3) MR GREEN jogged two back, rallied late in last but was the beaten favorite. Should atone this time around. (1) SMILING MAJOR is too sharp now to overlook and is the main threat. (4) INGLORIOUS MUSTARD has been sharp and was used in last; faces weaker this time out.

Balmoral: Wednesday 6/4 Analysis
By Jeremey Day
DRF HARNESS
Race 6: $10,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: PARKLANE SPARKLE (7th)

Spot Play: POWERFUL SPEED (5th)
Race 1

(1) KARMA KWEEN finds an ideal spot for her first lifetime start. The 3-year-old could be good enough to score off the bench. (5) PUNKY probably needs a start after a very long layoff but does have some upside in a weak field. (4) MEET ME TONIGHT is a plodder who races very evenly; use caution.

Race 2

(1) HIGH BALANCE was good for a few starts for new connections before tailing off in her last two. The 3-year-old gets the best post against a much softer bunch. (8) SWISS MOCHA made a break last out but has flashed some ability. (6) TWIST N TOUT adds Lasix for the first time which should help; threat.

Race 3

(6) IVE GOT THE KEY is just now back in racing shape and should offer a big price. He is capable of jumping up with big efforts from time to time. (4) JUSTLIVINTHEDREAM could be back on track and was much better than these last year. The pacer just missed last out and would hit the board with a similar effort. (3) LAZY LIZARD makes his third start in a new barn and was the driver’s choice.

Race 4

(2) FUTURE HALLA FAMER took out the favorite last race while making a miscue. The pacer has some ability but has been very rough-gaited at times. If some of the kinks have been worked out and he minds his manners, he can beat this field. (5) ALL CASH is another that will offer a nice price in a wide-open race. (7) BIRD IN FLIGHT will pop for a victory very soon against these; threat.

Race 5

(5) POWERFUL SPEED has shown a big burst of speed and just needs to make the gate for a huge chance. (7) BIG CHOCOLATE has been a money burner all year but probably has the most ability. (6) VAPORSTAR has been racing gamely at Hoosier and has a good history at this track.

Race 6

In a field with few contenders, (3) PRAIRIE THUNDER was shot out of a cannon last race. The pacer makes his third start back off a long layoff and should be primed for a big effort. (7) AMERICAN PORTRAIT scored at an overlay price last out for a hot barn. (4) COTTONLAND GEM has been racing gamely and could use a smooth trip.

Race 7

(7) PARKLANE SPARKLE is a well-bred filly with a ton of ability. The 3-year-old was babied last out around the track before unleashing a big wicked late kick. The pacer can head straight to the winner’s circle if she minds her manners. (4) OLA HANOVER looks to be the only threat to the top choice and also flashed a big late kick last out. (2) CYBER GAL has yet to win in her career but could hit the board using her early gate speed.

Race 8

(5) B MAN has a lot of ability despite the poor record. The trotter is versatile and just needs to stay trotting for a piece. (6) CARDINAL WIND has been steadily improving for connections who like to bring their young ones along slowly; threat. (2) MR MUSCLEMANIA has good tactical gate speed that should put him close turning for home.

Race 9

(9) CARNOUSTIE is better than most of the field and her last race was excellent despite getting picked off. (7) KITTY O‘BRIEN is very sharp right now and could be the horse to beat with a smooth trip; fires late. (8) KENNANS NANCY LEE needed her last start in a new barn. The pacer should be sharper second start back but is probably best used underneath.

KEY STAT: Ecuador have only won two of their last 13 games

EXPERT VERDICT: Ecuador’s home form was the bedrock of their successful World Cup qualifying campaign, and despite a recent draw in Holland, they rarely turn it on without the altitude advantage. England should come on for the Peru game, and are a backable price to secure a confidence-boosting win against a side beaten easily by Mexico last time out.

RECOMMENDATION: England

KEY STAT: Holland have only lost one of their last 20 matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Wales have shown signs of improvement in beating Iceland and drawing with Belgium recently, but they will struggle to trouble Holland without key man Gareth Bale. The Dutch have been underwhelming in their last two outings but can expose the class gap and sign off for Brazil with a comfortable win.

RECOMMENDATION: Holland 3-0

Wednesday Bonus Play MLB

(963) TORONTO BLUE JAYS (964) DETROIT TIGERS

Take: (964) DETROIT TIGERS -125

I consider myself to be fairly sophisticated in terms of my MLB breakdowns. That’s not always an asset, as sometimes I’m a little too in depth and miss what can arguably be described as staring me in the face. Tonight’s game between the Blue Jays and Tigers represents one matchup where I won’t let that happen, and I’m confident I’ll end up with a winner in the process.

Rick Porcello is probably never going to get any Cy Young consideration. He’s really the prototype for a middle of the rotation starter. He can chew up innings and more often than not will be good enough to give his team a chance to win the game. There’s not a thing wrong with that, as not every pitcher can go out and dominate. The formula is certainly working for the most part with Porcello. The Tigers are on a 19-5 rampage when Porcello starts. A good number of those starts have been basically the same. Six or seven innings, a few runs allowed and then turn it over to the relievers to finish off the win.

R.A. Dickey is capable of making even the best hitters look foolish at times. That crazy knuckleball Dickey throws can render batters helpless when it dances the way Dickey wants it to. But the flip side is that when the ball arrives flat, it can be launched into orbit. Trying to figure out which Dickey will appear from one game to the next is a daunting task. But so far this season, the bad Dickey has been appearing in Blue Jays road games. Toronto is playing some dynamite ball, but they’re 0-4 when Dickey takes the mound on enemy turf.

I don’t absolutely relish the thought of bucking this Blue Jays express right now. But I’m also not about to let a good opportunity get away. Porcello might not be anything more than the fourth best starting pitcher on the Tigers staff, but Detroit is a win machine when he takes the mound. Dickey is the opposite right now when pitching on the road. I also have to thing the Tigers aren’t real happy about the way they went down last night and expect a focused effort tonight. And I’ll cap it off by saying that I’m not going to sweat Joe Nathan fouling this up at the finish line, as I would be shocked if he gets into this game regardless of the situation. The price is hardly prohibitive and I going ahead and backing the Tigers to even up the series tonight.

MLB Comp Pick for Wednesday, June 4, 2014: 06:40 PM EST

(951) PITTSBURGH PIRATES VS (952) SAN DIEGO PADRES

Take: (952) SAN DIEGO PADRES

Reason: Your free pick for Wednesday, June 4th, 2014, comes in baseball as the Pirates and the Padres Sox meet in San Diegp's Petco Park. Pittsburgh is almost 3,000 miles from home and the Pirates are 14-37 in the last 51 meetings. Pittsburgh has a terrible offense, 20th in runs scored with little power. 30-year old Francisco Liriano used to be an ace but this season he's 1-5 with a 4.62 ERA. His main problem is control, walking 30 in 66 innings. The Pirates are 0-4 in Liriano's last 4 road starts vs. a team with a losing record and the team is 9-23 during game 3 of a series. San Diego is home, where they play their best baseball. In a rotation hurt by injuries the Padres catch a break with Ian Kennedy (3.42 ERA), who has been strong with 81 Ks in 73+ innings and only 19 walks. Kennedy was outstanding over six innings Friday night, allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts en route to a 4-1 win over the White Sox. Make it back-to-back one-run performances for Kennedy, who beat the Cubs the previous game. The Padres are 7-3 in Kennedy's last 10 starts with 4 days of rest. Play San Diego!
