KEY STAT: Juventus have conceded only seven goals in 12 Champions League games this season

EXPERT VERDICT: Barcelona's brilliant attackers are rarely underrated by bookmakers and the value may be for Juventus to frustrate the Catalans – at least in 90 minutes. Juve's defence has been outstanding in Europe this term but they also created plenty of chances in their impressive two-legged victory over Real Madrid and could take Barca to extra time in Berlin.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: England have won seven of their last eight matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Ireland would love to give this high-profile friendly their full attention, but they face a crunch Euro 2016 qualifying clash with Scotland less than a week later which could be a problem for Martin O’Neill when selecting his starting 11. England have played well in recent matches and look worthy favourites.

KEY STAT: Scotland have scored in 13 of their last 14 friendly games

EXPERT VERDICT: Qatar have bounced back well from their Asian Cup disappointment with wins over Algeria and Slovenia as well as a draw with Northern Ireland, but they face a tough test against Scotland. Gordon Strachan has got the Scots playing with plenty of freedom and they should justify odds-on favouritism.

Sophomore seasons have been golden for Tampa coach
Stephen Campbell

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper has a history of excelling to the highest degree in his second seasons behind the bench.

Cooper won the Clark Cup in his second year in charge of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) and also claimed the Calder Cup with the Norfolk Admirals in his second campaign with the Syracuse Crunch.

Cooper's Lightning are in the Stanley Cup Final just one year removed from his rookie season in the NHL. Oddsmakers have set the Bolts as -127 home favorites in Game 1 which gets underway Wednesday.

Stanley Cup Final primer: Offense to star for Hawks, Lightning

The most obvious similarities evaluating the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning, high-end skill and speed, should make for one entertaining Stanley Cup Final.

The Blackhawks and Lightning are not defense-first, trap teams. They are high-flying skilled teams that can produce breathtaking plays, and have done so on a number of occasions in the postseason. That cannot be said of most recent finals, where defensive responsibility and opportunistic counter attacks -- boring hockey -- were the norm.

Not to say the combatants lack responsibility in their own ends, because they wouldn't be here if they didn't.

Game of the Day: Blackhawks at Lightning

Chicago Blackhawks at Tampa Bay Lightning (-129, 5)

The Chicago Blackhawks' quest for their third championship in six seasons was put in peril late in February as Patrick Kane sustained a broken clavicle while falling awkwardly into the boards. Originally expected to be sidelined nearly three months, the flashy superstar returned just short of two and hasn't missed a beat as Chicago heads into Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final against the host Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.

While Kane (10 goals, team-high 20 points) vies for his second Conn Smythe Trophy in three years, captain Jonathan Toews (nine goals, nine assists) added another line to his big-game resume by scoring twice in the Blackhawks' 5-3 win over Anaheim in Game 7 of the Western Conference final. Both Chicago and Tampa Bay boast considerable depth, with the latter seeing its vaunted "Triplets" line of Tyler Johnson (league-leading 12 goals, 21 points), Nikita Kucherov (nine goals, 10 assists) and Ondrej Palat (seven goals, eight assists) accounting for 28 of the club's 55 goals in the playoffs. Towering Ben Bishop has come up large with a league-best three shutouts for the Lightning, who are making their second Stanley Cup appearance while becoming the first team in league history to play four Original Six foes in one playoff round. Tampa Bay outlasted Calgary in seven games in 2004 to win its lone final appearance while Chicago has claimed the Stanley Cup on five occasions, including a pair of spirited six-game series victories over Philadelphia (2010) and Boston (2013).

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, TVA Sports

LINE HISTORY: Books opened the Lightning -116 and that has since been adjusted to -129. The total has opened at 5 and remained.

INJURY REPORT: Blackhawks - D Michal Rozsival (Out, ankle). Lightning - D Mattias Ohlund (I-R, knee).

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "There's not a lot of past history here to go on as these two clubs have only met four times since 2011 and have never before met in the post-season. Both teams are healthy and both goalies played very well in their respective Conference finals, but each also had some let-downs. During the regular season, the Lightning had the better offense (ranked 1st vs. Chicago rank 17th), but the Blackhawks had the better defense (rank 2 vs. TB rank 12). It's certainly hard to bet against a strong home team like Tampa in a Game 1 situation, but also hard to go against an experienced playoff team like the Blackhawks, so it probably makes more sense to look at the over/under than the side in this Game 1." Covers Expert Big Al McMordie.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS: While Chicago's electric offense receives plenty of fanfare, Duncan Keith has anchored a sturdy defense that routinely ranks as one of the best in the NHL. Keith, a two-time Norris Trophy winner, has recorded 18 points and a league-best plus-13 rating while averaging 31:36 per contest. Traditional partner Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson have been steady while an inconsistent Johnny Oduya has provided a presence in front of Corey Crawford, who overcame his considerable struggles in the opening round to subdue both Minnesota and Anaheim.

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING: Bishop became the first goaltender in league history to notch a shutout in his first two Game 7 appearances after making 22 saves to eliminate the Presidents' Trophy-winning New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference final. "We still haven't accomplished anything yet," the 28-year-old said. "We're four wins away. It's going to be probably the hardest four wins of all of our careers. We know there's a lot ahead of us." Bishop stopped 65 of 67 shots versus Chicago this season - including all 28 he faced in a 4-0 victory on Feb. 27.

TRENDS:

* Blackhawks are 1-6 in the last seven meetings.
* Blackhawks are 0-4 in the last four meetings in Tampa Bay.
* Lightning are 1-4 in their last five games following a win.
* Over is 4-0-1 in Lightning last five home games.

COVERS CONSENSUS: Fifty-one percent of bettors are backing the Lightning in Game 1.

Blackhawks a dynasty in salary cap era

From the 1997-98 season to the 2007-08 campaign, the Chicago Blackhawks made it to the playoffs just once and won a single playoff game. Since then, the Blackhawks have gone on arguably the most impressive run in recent NHL history, especially considering the institution of the salary cap 10 years ago.

Chicago really began to turn things around in 07-08. A year after selecting Jonathan Toews third overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, the Blackhawks picked Patrick Kane No. 1 in 2007. Toews joined the team that year as well, and Chicago jumped from 71 points in 06-07 to 88 in 07-08. While that wasn’t enough to make the playoffs, it was obvious the the Blackhawks were on the rise.

The following year saw Chicago arrive on the big stage, going all the way to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the rival Detroit Red Wings in five games. While that was a tough defeat, this would be the start of a seven-year run that saw playoff appearances in each season, five trips to the Western Conference Finals and three trips to the Stanley Cup Final, with two Stanley Cups to date.

The Blackhawks ended a 49-year Cup drought in 2010, and the core of that team, featuring Toews, Kane, Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabook and Niklas Hjalmarsson remains together today. The supporting cast has changed due to the salary cap rules, but with that core in place, the success hasn’t dwindled.

Chicago reached its third Stanley Cup Final in six years by beating the Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals last Saturday. If the Blackhawks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final, they’ll be the only team in the salary cap era to win three Cups and the first team since the Red Wings from the late 1990s-early 2000s to win three Cups in six years. In fact, Chicago is the first team in the salary cap era to make it to three Stanley Cup Finals.

The Blackhawks will start this series on the road in Tampa Bay on Wednesday night. The two teams are rather evenly matched, and it should be a fast-paced series with a lot of excitement. Chicago has the championship experience, but Tampa has the home-ice advantage. The Lightning are a 1½-goal favorite in Game 1, but the Blackhawks have the better odds to win the Cup (5/8 to 7/5), per VegasInsider.com. This should be a good one.
