KEY STAT: Arsenal have won six of their last eight meetings against Sunderland

EXPERT VERDICT: Sunderland need a point to guarantee their Premier League survival, but they are unlikely to get any joy at the Emirates. The Black Cats are playing with a greater determination under Dick Advocaat than Gus Poyet’s final months, yet the gulf in class is likely to be highlighted from the early moments.

RECOMMENDATION: Arsenal-Arsenal double result

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in each of Rangers’ last six matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Five straight league wins ensured Hibs were spared a double-header against Queen of the South, who were just about seen off by Rangers. The Gers are scoring goals – they’ve only failed to score in one of 14 – but defending poorly; it’s two clean sheets in 14. They play an open style which should lead to goals.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Juventus have lost just one of their last 16 matches against Lazio

EXPERT VERDICT: Juventus must overcome two more challenges to register an historic trophy treble and the Serie A champions can clear the next hurdle by beating Lazio in the Coppa Italia final. Playing on home soil should be of some benefit to Lazio, yet they have beaten Juve just once in 16 meetings dating back to May 2009.

KEY STAT: Hamburg have kept one clean sheet in their last ten home fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Hamburg have never been relegated from the Bundesliga but their fate could be sealed by a defeat at home to Schalke. Victory for the hosts would open up the possibility of survival or a place in the relegation/promotion playoff but they can take nothing for granted against the Royal Blues, who will be keen to hold on to fifth place.

EXPERT VERDICT: Barcelona wrapped up the La Liga title with a game to spare and can sign off their league campaign with an easy win over relegation-threatened Deportivo. Only a victory would be enough to guarantee top-flight survival for Depo, but the Galicians have not triumphed at Camp Nou since 2003.

RECOMMENDATION: Barcelona to win 3-0

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in 13 of Wycombe’s last 18 games

EXPERT VERDICT: Southend and Wycombe narrowly missed out on automatic promotion but they both have a second chance in the League Two playoff final and this should be a tight match. Only goal difference separated these teams after 46 matches and it may take extra-time, or possibly even penalties, to split them.

Game of the Day: Cavaliers at Hawks

Cleveland Cavaliers at Atlanta Hawks (-1, 197)

The Atlanta Hawks are participating in the conference finals for the first time since the franchise relocated from St. Louis in 1968. Top-seeded Atlanta will look to add to its achievements when it opens the Eastern Conference finals against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

The Hawks won 60 games in the regular season and are trying to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since the St. Louis-based version lost in 1961. The frontcourt of center Al Horford, forward Paul Millsap and small forward DeMarre Carroll will be a key trio as Atlanta attempts to slow down Cleveland forward LeBron James, who is averaging 26.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.9 assists in the postseason. James will most often be guarded by Carroll, who has stepped up offensively with seven 20-point outings in the postseason. The second-seeded Cavaliers will have Kyrie Irving on the floor after the point guard proclaimed that he will play in the opener despite still bothered by left knee and right foot injuries.

LINE HISTORY: The opening line of Hawks -1 has held steady, but the total has dropped down to 197 after opening 197.5.

INJURY REPORT: Cleveland - L. James (probable), K. Irving (probable), K. Love (out for season), A. Varejao (out for season). Atlanta - T. Sefolosha (out for season).

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: "The Atlanta Hawks won and covered in three out of their four meetings with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the regular season. Both clubs are matched up once again but this time it's for the right to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals. Game 1 tips off on Wednesday, with the Hawks slightly favored at -1 as of this writing. The total is presently sitting at 197." Covers Expert Sean Murphy

WHAT BOOKS SAY: "We opened the Hawks at -1 at home but with the flood of action coming in on the Cavs to cover the -1, we moved to our current number of a pick’em where we are seeing 72% of the action coming in on the Cavs." Michael Stewart, oddsmaker for CarbonSports.ag

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS: Irving’s injuries will be closely watched by Cleveland coach David Blatt, who is aware that Irving reiterated that he doesn’t want to miss any playoff games. Irving has made some progress in recent days but is still nowhere near top form as the knee injury also requires rest that he isn’t afforded with at this time. “I think that’s the biggest thing I get out it. I don’t want to be on the sideline at all, especially preparing for a big stage like this,” Irving told reporters. “I want to be as close to 100 percent before Wednesday as I can be, so just doing the necessary things in order to do that.”

ABOUT THE HAWKS: Starting point guard Jeff Teague overcame a sluggish beginning to the series against Washington to average 20 points over the final three games while speedy backup Dennis Schroder excels at pushing the tempo. Schroder had back-to-back double-digit outings against the Wizards but then ended the series with back-to-back 3-of-12 shooting outings and coach Mike Budenholzer will look for ways to have Teague and Schroder on the court at the same time. “When those two guys play together, it gives you a second player that’s very comfortable, very accustomed, to being in pick-and-rolls with the ball in their hands – trying to get in the paint, attacking the basket and collapsing the defense,” Budenholzer told reporters.

TRENDS:

*Hawks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games.
*Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
*Cavaliers are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
*Cavaliers are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.

CONSENSUS: 56 percent of support is on the visiting Cavs.

Cavs PG Irving to start Game 1

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving went through the team's light workout Tuesday and expects to play Wednesday.
Irving limped to the bench in the deciding game of the Eastern Conference semifinals series against the Chicago Bulls and has been bothered by left knee tendinitis and a sore foot.
"I'm good to go," said Irving.
Coach David Blatt said Irving would be on the court with the starters Wednesday in Game 1 at Atlanta unless he wakes up with pain or discomfort that causes Irving to be reevaluated. Irving played just 12 minutes in Game 6 and was ineffective for stretches of the first five games. The Cavaliers are playing without All-Star forward Kevin Love, who had shoulder surgery following Cleveland's opening-round sweep of the Boston Celtics.
"I don't want to be on the sideline at all, especially preparing for a big stage like this," Irving said

Unheralded Hawks ready for Lebron-led Cavs

ATLANTA -- The Hawks announced their arrival with a 19-game winning streak, placed three on the All-Star team behind the NBA's Coach of the Year and yet, Atlanta is the unknown entering the Eastern Conference Finals.
That's just the way these guys like it.
"It is the team concept," said Dominique Wilkins, the team's TV color analyst who was on traded from the last Hawks team (1994) to entered the playoffs with the No. 1 seed in the conference. "They know that they rely on each other if they're going to be successful (and) that one or the other can't do it by themselves. They rely on a committee to get it done and they've done it better than anybody in the league this year."
The Hawks host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the conference finals on Wednesday at Phillips Arena, once a veritable empty barn but now a rocking atmosphere with 17 sellouts in 2015.
Cavaliers coach David Blatt called one of the lopsided losses to the Hawks this season, 127-98 in Cleveland, embarrassing. A month earlier in November, the Hawks blasted the Cavs at Quicken Loans Arena 127-94.
It's safe to say the Cavaliers are a much different team in May, but the Hawks are essentially an identical outfit.
"I think it's the players we have," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "I think we've been able to put together a group of high character guys that it's kind of in their hearts, in their guts. They play unselfishly, they care about each other. They do all of the things that go into having good chemistry and it's just a credit to the players that we have."
Atlanta was 38-44 in Budenholzer's first season and won in 2014-15 with balance, including a 35-3 stretch after starting the season 5-5. Six players averaged double figures in scoring, but none eclipsed 17 points per game.
Budenholzer spent two decades working at the knee of Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs, a team which has had James' number throughout his career. For most of the 2014 NBA Finals, San Antonio let James launch jumpers but cut off his attacking penetration.
James averaged 23.7 points, 5.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in three games against the Hawks this season. He shot 53.1 percent from the field.
"They're a great team, they've been a great team all year," James said. "They've been the No. 1 seed in our conference all year for a reason."
The 11-year veteran was dominant in the conference semifinals series against Chicago, averaging 27.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 8.8 assists in his usual adaptive chameleon-like role for a Cleveland team without Kevin Love and playing with a limited Kyrie Irving on the point.
"Obviously, it starts with LeBron," said Hawks shooting guard Kyle Korver, who made 49.2 percent of his 3-point tries in the regular season but made 29 percent in the conference semifinals against the Washington Wizards.
Hawks point guard Jeff Teague was inconsistent in the semifinals series against the Wizards but is capable of carrying the offense when scoring lulls strike.
"We don't have a superstar or whatever, but we come up big in big moments every night," Teague said

NHL Preview: Rangers (53-22) at Lightning (50-24)

Date: May 20, 2015 8:00 PM EDT

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Resilience is one of the keys to any team's success, especially in the NHL playoffs.

The Tampa Bay Lightning showed it in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals, and now it's the New York Rangers' turn to respond yet again.

'As a coach, you've got to make adjustments in some areas, and you've got to push buttons. For these guys to keep such a high intensity rate for the whole playoffs, and that goes for every team, it's a hard thing to do,' Lightning coach Jon Cooper said Tuesday after arriving home from the team's 6-2 victory that evened the series at 1-1.

Tyler Johnson's hat trick and another impressive performance by goaltender Ben Bishop bolster confidence heading into the next two games, Wednesday and Friday, at Amalie Arena.

'It's nothing magical I'm doing,' Cooper added. 'Usually in these situations, our goalie's bailing us out and our best players become our best players. That's the secret.

'Those guys bind together and will us to victory. When we've had a hiccup, that's probably been the reason why we've stopped whatever losing streak we've had.'

The Rangers dropped Game 2 after winning the series opener 2-1, but there's no reason to believe they'll panic.

In addition to compiling the league's best road record this season, they have goalie Henrik Lundqvist and a penchant for thriving under postseason pressure.

New York has split the first two games in eight of its past 12 playoff series. The Rangers are 6-1 in those series during that span.

In the Eastern Conference semifinals, New York rallied from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Washington Capitals.

'We've got another challenge in front of us, both defensively and offensively. We've been able to do it before,' Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said.

'Past doesn't necessarily dictate the future, but I have a lot of confidence in this group that we can raise our level of play. There's no doubt Tampa has done that. Now we need to do the same.'

The Lightning feel one key to Game 3 will be getting off to a fast start, much the way they did Monday night in New York.

Although they had the NHL's top home record during the regular season, they've already lost three times at Amalie Arena during the playoffs.

One of those losses came in a listless performance following a big road win, dropping them into a 3-2 series hole against Detroit in the first round.

Although they bounced back to win the next two games and advance, forward Ondrej Palat said the team learned a valuable lesson: you can't relax just because you're comfortable with circumstances.

'We need to play every game like it's a Game 7,' said Palat, who teams with Johnson and Nikita Kucherov to form Tampa Bay's 'Triplets' line that's scored 21 of the Lightning's 41 goals this postseason. 'Hopefully we're going to do that (Wednesday) and for the rest series.'

Lundqvist is 19-11 with a 1.77 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and four shutouts in 30 games the Rangers have played following a loss since the start of the 2012 playoffs.

New York captain Ryan McDonagh called the Rangers performance in Game 2, which included yielding a short-handed goal and failing to capitalize on more scoring opportunities themselves, embarrassing.

He didn't back off the assessment when he spoke with reporters at the team hotel on Tuesday night.

'I'd never seen the group play like that. It was a lot of things we could control,' McDonagh said, adding there was no more room for performances like that if the Rangers expect to win the series.

'We're got to give ourselves a better chance than that,' the defenseman said.

Meanwhile, the Rangers concede they need to find a way to generate more offense. They've scored 28 goals in 14 playoff games.

It's difficult, though, to be overly critical, considering what the team has been able to accomplish thanks to Lundqvist and a stifling defense.

'You always want to score more as a team. But there's probably a lot of teams that would trade places with us right now where we are,' New York's Martin St. Louis said.

'It's about winning games. We've found a way to win games to be in a position where we're three wins from the Stanley Cup final,' St. Louis added. 'Do we want to score more goals? Absolutely. ... But it's easier said than done.'

# 7 BETTOR CHILL OUT 4/1

We've got a feeling CHARISMA HANOVER is going to get the win. The handicapping team knows that speed is the key in harness racing. This horse will unlock our way to a nice top prize. With a 93 avg class rating, this fine animal has one of the finest class advantages in the group. Had one of the most favorable TrackMaster speed figs of the field of starters in her last race. I'd recommend using in your plays. SHERKIN HANOVER - Her 89 average has this mare among the best TrackMaster Speed Ratings this time. This mare has been going to post versus some of the most competitive company in this group in recent times. BETTOR CHILL OUT - Not many knocks against this solid standardbred, let's give her a shot.

Hard not to strongly consider BIGHANDSBIGGLOVES as the top pick this time. Positive feel - running well enough to contend in this race. Worth a look here looking at the markings in the TrackMaster speed fig department alone. Seems to have a nice class advantage based on the starters he has raced against. FASTLANE ANOVER - Can't miss based on TrackMaster Speed Ratings which have been great (73 avg) lately. This horse has shown us some ability in the past, just look at the 69 avg class figure. Should play well in this one. METAMORPHOSIS - This contender earned a great TrackMaster SR in last race. Looks to be in top form to come right back.

# 9 SOUGHT FOR SPEED 9/2

# 7 CANTCHACO 3/1

# 5 C. O. NORBY 10/1

SOUGHT FOR SPEED is the best bet in this race. Had one of the top Equibase Speed Figs of this group of horses in this race in his last contest. Burns has this gelding racing well and is a respectable pick based on the respectable speed figures posted in sprint races as of late. Has been close up on the wire most every time lately. CANTCHACO - With Mawing in the saddle guiding him, this gelding should be able to break out quickly here. Had one of the most favorable Equibase Speed Figures of this group in his last contest. C. O. NORBY - Is tough not to examine based on speed figures which have been respectable - 81 avg - of late. This gelding could improve with second time Lasix.

# 13 TEACUP TWIRL 3/1

# 8 CITY SEDUCTION 5/2

# 2 IRISH MATE 3/1

I've got to go with TEACUP TWIRL. Her 56 average has this filly with among the top Equibase Speed Figures in this competition. Ought to be carefully examined based on the decent speed fig posted in the last competition. Looks very strong for the conditions of this race today, showing solid numbers in dirt sprint races lately. CITY SEDUCTION - Has performed admirably as of late in sprint races, posting a nifty 63 avg Equibase speed fig. Earned a competitive speed rating last time out. IRISH MATE - With Ocampo controlling the reins on her, this filly ought to be able to break out quickly for this race.

#4 COLEMAN BARRICKS (ML=5/2)

COLEMAN BARRICKS - Last race May 8th was pretty strong for a $5,000 Claiming race so this gelding's performance wasn't all that bad. This racer coming off a solid race in the last 30 days is a contender in my book. This gelding likes to stalk and the way things shape up here, he should get an idyllic trip. Ranked number 1 in earnings per start. Another indication that this animal has the class to take this race. The last speed rating of 54 is the top last race speed rating in the group.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 LORD WINDSOR (ML=3/1), #8 TOTETHENOTE (ML=4/1), #9 TRIPLE DEUCE (ML=6/1),

LORD WINDSOR - I can't play this repeated non-winner. Gets the assignment executed once in a while. Most unsatisfactory fig last time around the track at Charles Town at 6 1/2 furlongs. Don't believe this pony will improve too much today. TOTETHENOTE - Just cannot invest in this questionable contender. Didn't show me anything positive last time around the track or on Mar 19th. This gelding hasn't had any recent accomplishments in sprint races. Tough to play him in this race. TRIPLE DEUCE - The rating last race out doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this mount as a questionable contender.
