Spot Play: NESSIES BOY (8th)



Race 1

(9) JESSE HILL sophomore trotter makes his career debut off a nice qualifier. If the gelding can find a way into the race he should be a factor. (4) MYSTICAL WISHES filly was driven very conservatively last out and the connections will probably want an aggressive drive to see what she's made of third start back. (5) LOVIN YOU FOREVER well bred mare has flashed ability but is very inconsistent; use underneath.

Race 2

(5) NICE PARTY was a game winner off a long layoff and should be much better second start back. (7) IGETAGOODFEELING was just even last out but faces a much softer bunch. (1) PARKLANE SPARKLE well bred filly comes off a nice qualifier, draws the best post, and gets sent out for a trainer who has them ready off the bench.

Race 3

(6) SARA THE SPY dominated a field that was light years ahead of this one last start; short price. (4) RAPHAELL well bred trotter should use his gate speed to get a decent trip in a weak field. (3) HOT ROD RILEY MAE mare owns some ability and could be keyed underneath.

Race 4

(3) FLUKIE FLIGHT has a bunch of positives including a huge driver change. The nice-looking pacer has had some tough racing luck and gets sent out for new connections that have been hot. (9) RIP N ROCK really stepped his game up last start. The 3-year-old looks to be a good one and could just now be hitting his stride. (6) DUNESIDE MIKE makes his third start back off a layoff and has room to improve.

Race 5

(5) VIN trotting colt will be looking to make it three straight. The 3-year-old is a slow starter but has shown a big closing kick. (1) TOUR HALL gets a negative driver change that could hurt late; fires early. (3) SWISS MOCHA looks to be slowly improving and should offer value underneath.

Race 6

(7) PRAIRIE THUNDER watch the tote board early because the pacer went some eye popping miles not showing much on paper a few times last year. The 4-year-old comes off a nice qualifier and finds a suspect field. (5) ELIJAH'S JET has proved he can pace with this group and should offer a good price. (4) EDEN WAY closed nicely last start but faces better.

Race 7

(6) PARK LANE CRYSTAL mare was much better last out and had some bad cover that cost her the victory. (2) KIMBERLY R gets a good post and has been knocking on the door. (8) ANIGHTWITHWILMA was the driver's choice and comes off a huge effort.

Race 8

(3) NESSIE'S BOY was an easy winner last time at the track and should be ready for a better effort. (6) B MAN four-year-old stallion had a ton of trot last out but nowhere to go. The trotter is a threat with any kind of a trip. (2) MR MUSCLEMANIA gets sent out for a provisional driver and needs more against this bunch; use underneath.

Race 9

In a wide open race (6) ROCKME AMADEOUS has the ability to beat this field with the right setup. (4) LOOK MA NO HANDS is an enigma for bettors because the pacer will probably run big or be completely empty; threat. (7) BELL VALLEY ART has been huge in his last two but tough to gauge what kind of effort you will get from the pilot.

Race 1

(1) MISS EVA CASH made the big move in last, loomed in the late stages but faltered. Should be tighter this evening and if she stays flat that should be that. (5) SMALLSREED made a strong down the road attempt in last but ran out of gas nearing the wire. Should contend but moves out from the rail. (6) SAMMY MERLOT has the speed to take these on best but has to stay flat.

Race 2

(3) SUPER LUSTRE whipped the field in last to break long losing streak and needs best to take another. (6) LINDAS DIAMOND LIL is another rough gaited trotter that needs to stay the course for best results. (7) MASTERS TRACKSTER has to overcome the post but if he avoids breakers, he might just do that.

Race 3

(7) ACTION EAR TO EAR seeks fourth straight and that includes two wire to wires from the outside posts. (3) ROSE RUN PANCHO has had a series of qualifiers and in last finally managed to stay on stride. (2) MORGANS MAJESTIC put in a decent qualifier and showed last year he can win if flat.

Race 4

(7) CODYTHECLOWN has won four of last five and has been bet heavy in all so obviously one has to watch the board. (2) GYPSY LADY seems versatile enough to contend with these with any kind of trip. One would think she should have more wins but being close finishes the exotics. (5) FIDGETING HANOVER has faced better in recent.

Race 5

(8) GALE FORCE HANOVER has two straight wins after taking his qualifier three back. The post has been conquered before by our hero. (2) ANNIES ROCKETMAN faltered on the wire in last but prior two were front-stepping wins. (1) BELLASTWILIGHTSTAR has the pole and has the speed to be close throughout.

Race 6

(7) NIGHT CALL took a few months off and may come out winging. (6) AUTO PILOT faltered on the front end in last but faces little enough to stay to the wire if not pushed. (1) YARROWS CRUISER has not won in a long, long time but qualified decently enough to indicate he can be around at the wire.

Race 7

(2) KING ME looks to be a now-or-never proposition as he seeks to break the 0 for 2014 slump. (4) KENNAIRN LIFE SIGN has the speed but may lack the stamina. (5) GO SMARTY BRAND has a lot of 1's on his card--but not in the win column so he may be the one to catch.

Race 8

(1) CREDIT REPORT moves in to the rail and gets the nod in close fit. (3) LADYS DUDE just missed from the pocket in last and should be tighter this time. (4) ANNIESBLUEJEANBABY was second best twice before a qualifier win and gets long look in well-matched field.

Race 9

(1) INGLORIOUS MUSTARD has wired the field two back and brushed and crushed in last. Pick your poison. (2) KJS JAKEE steps up a bit but cannot be overlooked. (7) CALL HIM CLINT has proven he has it all in recent and has to be give long look in another well matched field.

Race 10

(7) VACATION ANGEL is much too sharp to look past. (1) TABULATOR has the pole and good speed but had to qualify in last to get a flat line on his card. (3) MARTINAS QUEEN moves in off last and earns long look.

Race 11

(3) A MAJOR HAZE has been king of his qualifiers winning two straight. Tries first real competition of the year. (4) JOJO IN THE SKY would have been top choice but is being reined by 4th different driver in last five outings and that has to be a warning sign. (2) COWBOY TOUGH last two were quality starts and he faces much the same type.

Race 12

(6) ROCKIN HA CHEERY O has been tightened enough to have no excuse in here. (2) MACAO put in a good qualifier and will be looming near the wire. (4) MOMA JEANS CROWN seldom wins but can be close on best.

Race 13

(3) CYCLONE ASHORE won for fun with big finish in qualifier and has to be give a solid chance in here. (4) TIELER BEA HOTSPUR improved in last and can be in the photo on best. (8) CANT SLAY ME has been attacked by secondonitis in 2014 and is looking for the cure.

Race 14

(2) WHAT DO YOU WANT seeks third straight and is the one to beat. (1) ALLAMERICAN CHEER has the pole and no excuses to offer. (5) NEELY SPRINT is sharp enough to get the job done on best effort.

Race 15

(2) GORDIEISANARTIST has good position to argue from and earns nervous nod after two losing favorite outings. (4) BIG HARRY DEAL faces slightly weaker but has won few the last two seasons. (6) LARRY CLARK has been knocking on door.

BABY B - I have to like this filly's chances to win at the shorter distance. This filly is in good condition. Ran third on Apr 23rd. SHADES OF INDYGO - You have to like this horse changing from dirt to turf for the first time. She finished on the board on a sluggish dirt track on May 2nd. A sign she may take to turf. This filly is in top physical condition right now. Finished third last time out and comes back soon.

Vulnerable Contenders: #13 BRANDINI (ML=2/1), #12 LADY KREESA (ML=3/1), #3 EDDY'S TIME (ML=7/2),

BRANDINI - Didn't come through as the favorite the last two times. Probably won't gain a score today either. I normally try to beat this kind of chalk. Extended vacation and no drop in level of competition. The speed fig last time around the track doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this mount as a vulnerable contender. LADY KREESA - Just don't believe she is worth it at the given odds. EDDY'S TIME - I'm foretelling a less than stellar go out of her this time.

I give my vote to CRAB KEY here. Is a strong contender based on figures put up as of late under today's conditions. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Parker will most likely have this filly in excellent position to win the race. Ought to go to the lead and might never look back. RED HOT BULL - Will likely be one of the early speedsters of the pack going into the halfway point of the race. Baird is trying to prove victorious with this one by bringing her back so soon. SISTER LILLY - The Equibase Speed Figure of 53 from her last affair looks quite good in here.

GEM'S PRIDE - Possibly a peak effort for this filly today. Been getting closer and the finish with each recent start. Have to make this filly a solid contender; she comes off a good effort on Apr 27th. Three consecutive improved speed figures (49-64-88) make this horse a dominant contender. LA CONDESA - Sprinters that come back to the races quickly are generally good plays. Vargas was aboard this filly last time around the track and was impressed enough to take the animal right back. I like that most recent contest on May 7th at Suffolk Downs where she finished third.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 TSUNAMI WAVE (ML=8/5), #2 MARCH BACK TO ME (ML=4/1), #5 ISLAND BLOSSOM (ML=5/1),

TSUNAMI WAVE - Morning line of 8/5 make this animal a pass by my criteria. MARCH BACK TO ME - This equine hasn't been around in either of her last two outings. 4/1 is not worth it for any thoroughbred in a sprint of 5 1/2 furlongs that hasn't finished in the money in a short distance event of late. ISLAND BLOSSOM - The speed fig last time out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class figure of today's event. Mark this animal as a likely underlay.

#1 ROYAL CURRIER Well folks ... this is the initial running of this stakes race which honors the career of the crack sprinter Diablo who was quite fond of Belmont Park, where he won four of six starts and was never off the board. His biggest victory came in the 1991 True North Handicap. Julie Krone was aboard the Bill Mott trainee as they completed the six-furlong race in a sparkling 1:08.24. I've put #6 TENANGO on top of my multiple entry contender's list this afternoon ... he's hit the board in each of his last five outings, with three of those "board hit efforts," including a win in his 3rd race back, also qualifying as "POWER RUNS." Jockey Junior Alvarado and Trainer David Jacobson send him to the post for the "Wednesday Feature" ... they've hit the board with 55% of their last 75 entries saddled as a team to date. The morning line favorite is #4 SATURDAY'S CHARM who takes a class drop (-7), and is the speed leader in this stakes field today sprinting at 6.0 furlongs on the dirt, and has turned in a trio of "POWER RUN BOARD HITS" in his last five starts.

Unders heating up on the ice

With the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs coming to a close, teams are tightening up the defense and unders are becoming a hot play on the ice.

Both Game 7 in the Rangers-Penguins series and Game 6 of the between the Wild and Blackhawks went under the total Tuesday night, making the under 5-1 in the last six playoff games.

There are two more games Wednesday night, with Game 7 between the Canadiens and Bruins and Game 6 between the Ducks and Kings. The game total for both is currently at 5.0.

Underdog shines on hardwood yet again

The underdog had another great night for bettors, going 2-0 against the spread in Tuesday's NBA Playoff action.

The Washington Wizards thumped the Indiana Pacers 102-79, covering as a 5.5-point road dog, and the Oklahoma City Thunder won 105-104, but it was the Los Angeles Clippers who covered as 5.5-point road dogs.

Underdogs are now 9-1 ATS since Friday May 9 and are 12-6 ATS in the conference semifinal round of the postseason.

The Brooklyn Nets are 7-point road dogs at the Miami Heat and the Portland Trail Blazers are 7.5-point road dogs at the San Antonio Spurs in Wednesday's matchups.
