Preview: Braves at Mets
GAME: Atlanta Braves (6-12) at New York Mets (8-11)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York

Mother Nature gave the struggling Atlanta Braves and the Mets an extra day to try and shake off their early-season slumps, raining out Tuesday’s series opener to set up a shortened two-game series beginning Wednesday in New York. The Mets have lost four in a row and eight of their past nine games, and likely would be in the National League East basement were it not for the Braves’ current six-game losing streak.

The postponement sets up a rematch of a great pitching duel from opening day, as Atlanta turns to Julio Teheran and the Mets will skip Robert Gsellman’s spot in the rotation in favor of Noah Syndergaard. Sparked by six blasts each from Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce, the Mets are among the league leaders in homers (29), but have allowed five runs or more four times in their past nine games. Atlanta starters have produced eight quality starts in its past 10 games, but have suffered one run losses three times in its past four contests. First baseman Freddie Freeman is off to a blistering start, hitting .381 (third in the NL through Monday) with seven homers and a .494 on-base percentage, and is a career .312 hitter against New York.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN South (Atlanta), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Julio Teheran (1-1, 3.52 ERA) vs. Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (1-1, 1.73)

Teheran never looked comfortable in suffering his first defeat of the season April 19 against Washington, allowing seven runs on seven hits - including a pair of Bryce Harper homers - in just four innings. The 26-year-old came into that game with a 0.95 ERA after three solid starts to begin the season, including holding the Mets to four hits in six shutout innings at Citi Field on April 3. Teheran is 7-3 all-time against New York with a 2.21 ERA, the lowest ERA among qualifying pitchers against the Mets since 2011.

Syndergaard suffered his first loss of the season Thursday against the Philadelphia, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits in seven innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks - his sixth career game with double-digit strikeouts and no walks. He has yet to walk a hitter or allow a homer in 26 innings this season while striking out 30 (tied for sixth in the NL entering Tuesday). Syndergaard began his season with a gem against the Braves on April 3, striking out seven while giving up five hits in six shutout innings of a game New York eventually won 6-0.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Braves bullpen entered Tuesday ranked 12th in the NL in ERA (5.19), and has blown 4-of-7 save opportunities.

2. Provided the weather is better Wednesday, the Mets plan on Cespedes (left hamstring injury) and C Travis d’Arnaud (right wrist contusion) returning to the lineup.

3. Atlanta 2B Brandon Phillips enters Wednesday riding a 10-game hitting streak, hitting .375 with four extra-base hits and seven RBIs during that stretch, and a 15-game on-base streak.

Preview: Yankees at Red Sox
GAME: New York Yankees (11-7) at Boston Red Sox (11-8)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts

Fans had to wait one extra day, but one of the greatest rivalries in professional sports history resumes Wednesday when the Boston Red Sox host the New York Yankees in the opener of a rain-shortened two-game set and the first of 19 renewals this season. The American League East Division combatants have each won 83 meetings over the last nine regular seasons with the teams alternating series victories over the past six years after splitting 18 encounters in each season from 2008-10.

“It’s always fun,” New York third baseman Chase Headley told reporters after the Yankees (11-7) lost 2-1 in Pittsburgh on Sunday. “There’s always a lot of energy in Boston. Obviously they’re going to be one of the teams we’re fighting all year with, so we’re looking forward to taking a breather (Monday) and getting back after it on (Wednesday).” New York's Aaron Judge, a 6-7, 282-pound rookie, takes his first swings at Fenway Park's fabled Green Monster after belting six home runs - some of the tape-measure variety - with 13 RBIs this season as one of the so-called Baby Bombers who have helped the Yankees get off to an encouraging start. Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who underwent an MRI on Monday, got an extra day to rest with Tuesday's rain out and could make his return from a two-game absence after injuring his knee and ankle Friday, when Baltimore's Manny Machado went into second base hard on a slide. Boston's Rick Porcello, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, lost his last two starts and opposes Luis Severino, who struck out 21 over 15 innings in his last two turns.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ESPN, YES (New York), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Luis Severino (1-1, 4.05 ERA) vs. Red Sox RH Rick Porcello (1-2, 5.32)

Severino allowed four runs (three earned) and three hits while striking out 10 over a career-high eight innings of a 4-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox last Tuesday. The 23-year-old Dominican struck out 11 for the first of his two career double-digit strikeout games in seven innings of a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay on April 13. Severino is 0-3 with a 5.71 ERA in four games (three starts) versus Boston, including 0-2, 7.30 in three appearances (two starts) last season.

Porcello allowed three unearned runs, six hits, one walk and struck out five in seven innings of a 3-0 loss at Toronto on Wednesday. The 28-year-old New Jersey native, who went 22-4 last season, permitted eight runs in 4 1/3 frames of a 10-5 setback versus Tampa Bay on April 14. Porcello is 7-5 with a 3.28 ERA in 14 starts - 2-1, 2.05 in three turns last season - versus New York but struggles with Jacoby Ellsbury (12-for-31, four home runs).

WALK-OFFS

1. The Red Sox are last in the major leagues with 11 home runs while the Yankees were tied for fifth entering Tuesday's games with 26.

2. New York 1B Greg Bird (.104, one home run, two RBIs in 48 at-bats) went 0-for-11 in the three-game series with the Pirates and is 1-for-19 in his last six contests.

3. Boston OF Andrew Benintendi (.347, one home run, 11 RBIs) recorded a career-high five hits Sunday and has six multi-hit games in his last 12 contests.

Preview: Twins at Rangers
GAME: Minnesota Twins (10-10) at Texas Rangers (9-12)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas

The Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers have altered fortunes of late, with the former answering a disastrous 1-6 stretch by winning the first two contests of their three-game series. The reinvigorated Twins look to record a sweep in Arlington, Texas, for the first time in 41 years on Wednesday night when the clubs reconvene at Globe Life Park.

Miguel Sano answered a lackluster series-opening performance by belting a homer to highlight a three-hit performance in Minnesota's 8-1 victory on Tuesday. While the Twins have won seven of the last eight meetings between the teams dating to last season, the Rangers are looking to regain the form that saw them emerge victorious in four in a row overall heading into this series. Joey Gallo (team-leading seven homers) went deep for the fifth time in seven outings on Tuesday, raising legitimate questions about how Texas manager Jeff Banister plans to keep the explosive 23-year-old in the lineup when veteran third baseman Adrian Beltre returns from injury. The Rangers' offense certainly can use more pop as they've mustered just 20 runs in their last eight games.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins LH Hector Santiago (2-1, 2.19 ERA) vs. Rangers LH Cole Hamels (1-0, 2.77)

Santiago continued his string of strong outings this season on Friday, recording his third straight quality start to emerge victorious in a 6-3 win over Detroit. The 29-year-old fanned six for the second start in a row to improve his season total to 17 strikeouts against just four walks. Santiago has struggled in his career versus Rougned Odor (.423), although he has had his way with Shin-Soo Choo (.188) and Elvis Andrus (.182).

Hamels authored his best performance this season on Friday, allowing one run on three hits in eight innings of a 6-2 win over Kansas City. Buoyed by a four-homer barrage, the 33-year-old kept the ball in the park after being taken deep in each of his previous three outings. Veteran Joe Mauer has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games overall but is 0-for-9 in his career versus Hamels, who owns a 1-1 mark and a 6.91 ERA in five career starts against Minnesota.

WALK-OFFS

1. Struggling Texas RF Nomar Mazara is 0-for-8 with two strikeouts in the series and 2-for-31 in his last eight contests overall.

2. Minnesota LF Eddie Rosario is 11-for-30 with two homers and five RBIs during his career high-tying eight-game hitting streak.

3. Odor is 1-for-11 with four strikeouts in his last three contests.

Preview: Blue Jays at Cardinals
GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (6-14) at St. Louis Cardinals (9-11)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri

The St. Louis Cardinals have lofty expectations for Carlos Martinez and the right-hander did nothing to temper them with a 10-strikeout performance in his season debut. Still, Martinez remains winless and will look to halt a three-start losing streak when the Cardinals continue their three-game series against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays.

Martinez typically has been a fast starter since he was moved into the starting rotation in 2015, going a combined 8-0 over April over the past two years en route to winning 30 games. He will face a Toronto offense that entered the series ranked 29th in the majors in scoring before squeezing out a 6-5 victory in 11 innings Tuesday night. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons elected to give catcher Russell Martin the start at third base to help his beleaguered offense and saw the winning run scored by pitcher Marcus Stroman after he delivered a pinch-hit double. The series-opening win put Toronto in position to post back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, Sportsnet One, Sportsnet360 (Toronto), FSN Midwest (St. Louis)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Mat Latos (0-0, 7.20 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Carlos Martínez (0-3, 4.76)

Once a mainstay on the pitching staffs of San Diego and Cincinnati, Latos is on his sixth team since the start of 2015 and will be making his second start for Toronto. The 29-year-old Latos worked five innings in his season debut at the Los Angeles Angels, giving up four runs on six hits while walking three in five innings. Latos has been hurt by Yadier Molina, who is 12-for-34 with a homer and five RBIs.

Martinez failed to get through the sixth inning for the third straight outing last time out in Milwaukee, giving up five runs on seven hits over five frames. He had a bizarre line in his previous turn against the New York Yankees, racking up 11 strikeouts while walking eight in 5 1/3 innings. Martinez has been an ordinary pitcher at home, posting a 15-14 record with a 3.77 ERA in 74 appearances (38 starts).

WALK-OFFS

1. Cardinals 3B Jedd Gyorko is 9-for-16 with three doubles, a triple and a homer during a four-game hitting streak.

2. Blue Jays RF Jose Bautista entered the series batting .129 with 26 strikeouts, but had a pair of hits and an RBI single.

3. Cardinals 1B Matt Carpenter served a one-game suspension for making contact with an umpire Sunday versus Milwaukee.

Preview: Nationals at Rockies
GAME: Washington Nationals (14-6) at Colorado Rockies (14-7)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado

After their double-play combo combined for 12 RBIs in the second contest of the series, the Washington Nationals look for another offensive surge when they continue their four-game set against the host Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Trea Turner hit for the cycle and drove in a personal-best seven runs while Daniel Murphy contributed three hits and matched his career high of five RBIs as Washington won a 15-12 slugfest on Tuesday.

Turner recorded the third cycle in franchise history as he and Murphy each delivered a three-run triple while the Nationals recorded a season high in runs in improving to 7-1 on their 10-game road trip. Bryce Harper registered two hits and has gone 16-for-30 over the last nine games to raise his average to .400 - second-best in the National League. Colorado's Charlie Blackmon also is in the midst of a torrid stretch as he is 9-for-21 with four homers and 12 RBIs over his last five games after going 3-for-5 with a blast and three RBIs in Tuesday's setback. Blackmon, who is riding a 10-game hitting streak, increased his RBI count to 21 - tying him with Harper and Miami's Marcell Ozuna for the major-league lead.

TV: 8:40 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Washington), ROOT (Colorado)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Tanner Roark (2-0, 3.65 ERA) vs. Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (2-2, 4.10)

Roark gave up three runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings against the New York Mets in his last turn but did not factor in the decision. The 30-year-old will be making his first career start against the Rockies after working one inning of scoreless relief at Coors Field in 2015. Roark has been stellar when the bases are empty, limiting hitters to a .161 average, but that figure rises to .350 with runners in scoring position.

Chatwood defeated San Francisco in each of his last two starts and tossed his first career shutout in the first of the two outings. The 27-year-old gave up two hits during the standout performance while notching his second complete game in the majors. Chatwood settled for a no-decision in his lone career start against the Nationals in 2013 despite giving up one run and four hits over six innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Rockies have scored 46 runs over their last five games, winning the first four.

2. Turner, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, recorded just two RBIs in nine games before Tuesday's stellar performance.

3. Colorado 1B Mark Reynolds homered in each of the first two games of the series and is 8-for-19 with three blasts and eight RBIs over his past five contests.

Preview: Padres at Diamondbacks
GAME: San Diego Padres (8-14) at Arizona Diamondbacks (14-8)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 9:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks lead the major leagues in runs scored, and the offensive eruptions are equating to early-season victories. The Diamondbacks are averaging 10.2 runs in their last five victories and look to make the scoreboard operator work overtime again when they continue their four-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Wednesday.

Arizona scored 16 runs while winning the first two games of the series to raise its runs output to 121 as well as improve its home record to 10-2. The versatile Chris Owings has collected seven RBIs in the series while slugger Paul Goldschmidt went 4-for-4 with a homer and and drove in three runs in Tuesday's 9-3 triumph, giving him nine RBIs in his last four games. San Diego is in the midst of a four-game slide and has dropped nine of its last 12. Tuesday's loss marked the fifth time this season the Padres have allowed nine or more runs in a game.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN San Diego, FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Trevor Cahill (1-2, 3.44 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (2016: 5-4, 6.39)

Cahill is coming off a strong performance in which he allowed one run and three hits over seven innings while defeating Miami. The 29-year-old pitched for the Diamondbacks from 2012-14 and is 0-2 with a 3.75 ERA in six appearances (one start) against his former club. Cahill has given up just 12 hits while striking out 21 in 18 1/3 innings and has shut down left-handed hitters (4-for-33).

Godley will be recalled from Triple-A Reno to fill the rotation opening created by the loss of Shelby Miller (elbow), who may be sidelined for a lengthy period. The Diamondbacks opted for Godley over reliever Archie Bradley partly due to his strong last start at Reno, when he allowed just one hit over seven scoreless innings. The 27-year-old Godley is 10-5 with a 5.34 ERA in 36 career appearances (15 starts) and 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA against the Padres in five games (two starts) while being torched by Wil Myers (4-for-4).

WALK-OFFS

1. The Padres have lost eight of their last 10 games at Chase Field.

2. Arizona has homered in the first inning in a franchise-record five straight contests, becoming the first team to accomplish the feat since the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

3. San Diego optioned RHP-C-OF Christian Bethancourt to Triple-A El Paso to focus on his pitching and recalled INF Cory Spangenberg.

Preview: Athletics at Angels
GAME: Oakland Athletics (10-10) at Los Angeles Angels (10-12)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 10:07 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California

Despite winning the last two, the Los Angeles Angels hope to avoid another game with only two runs scored when they host the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Los Angeles dropped a 6-2 decision to Toronto on Sunday but has posted back-to-back 2-1 victories, including an 11-inning affair in the series opener.

After nine scoreless innings, each team led off its half of the 10th with a home run before Danny Espinosa opened the 11th with a single and scored three batters later on Kole Calhoun's single. Mike Trout launched the Angels' homer and brings a nine-game hitting streak into Wednesday's contest. Oakland's offense has stalled of late, producing one run in consecutive setbacks that have followed a five-game winning streak. Trevor Plouffe is batting just .231 but is riding a six-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 contests.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, NBC Sports California (Oakland), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics LH Sean Manaea (1-1, 4.43 ERA) vs. Angels RH Matt Shoemaker (0-1, 4.98)

Manaea is coming off his first win of the season, a six-inning effort against Seattle on Friday in which he allowed one run and five hits. The 25-year-old native of Indiana escaped with a no-decision against Los Angeles in his season debut on April 4 after surrendering four runs and five hits in six frames. Manaea remains in search of his first career victory versus the Angels after going 0-1 with a 3.55 ERA in two starts against them as a rookie last year.

Shoemaker has allowed two runs in three of his four starts this season but has yet to record a win. One of those two-run outings came opposite Manaea earlier this month, when the 30-year-old from Michigan yielded four hits and walked three in a no-decision at Oakland. Shoemaker owns a 4-2 record and 3.49 ERA in 10 career starts and one relief appearance against the Athletics.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Athletics placed OF Rajai Davis (hamstring) on the 10-day disabled list and designated RHP Raul Alcantara for assignment while recalling OF Ryan LaMarre and RHP Cesar Valdez from Triple-A Nashville.

2. Los Angeles SS Andrelton Simmons is 9-for-24 during his six-game hitting streak.

3. Oakland is expected to activate RHP Kendall Graveman from the DL to start Thursday's series finale.

Preview: Dodgers at Giants
GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (10-11) at San Francisco Giants (7-14)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, April 26 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California

One day after the San Francisco Giants promoted their top hitting prospect, the Los Angeles Dodgers did the same on Tuesday by recalling outfielder Cody Bellinger. The 21-year-old is expected to make his second straight start Wednesday as the Dodgers continue their four-game series against the host San Francisco Giants, who are off to a 7-14 start.

The Giants inserted rookie third baseman Christian Arroyo into the lineup Monday while Bellinger got the call Tuesday from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he was hitting .343 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 67 at-bats. Arroyo and Bellinger each recorded their first major-league hits on Tuesday in the Dodgers’ 2-1 victory as they snapped a six-game losing streak at AT&T Park. Brandon Crawford, who will miss the final two games of the series while on bereavement leave, left Tuesday’s contest with a right groin strain and hopes to have an MRI on Wednesday. The injury-plagued Giants have had Hunter Pence batting leadoff in place of Denard Span, who has been out the last three games with a right shoulder injury but could return Thursday.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, MLB Network, SportsNet LA (Los Angeles), NBC Sports Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Alex Wood (1-0, 3.29 ERA) vs. Giants RH Johnny Cueto (3-1, 5.25)

Wood is set to make his third start this season after allowing four runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings Friday at Arizona. “I thought my stuff was OK,” Wood told reporters. “I thought I competed. My stuff wasn’t as good as it’s been so far. But I felt really good stamina-wise, so I’m moving in the right direction.” The 26-year-old has gone 0-2 with a 6.89 ERA in six career games (two starts) against San Francisco.

Cueto is aiming for a bounce-back effort after allowing the first grand slam of his 10-year career Friday at Colorado and being charged with six runs and eight hits in five innings. The 31-year-old is 5-6 with a 2.74 ERA in 13 career starts against the Dodgers, including a 3-1 mark and 2.67 ERA in five outings last season. Chase Utley is 11-for-34 with a home run against the two-time All-Star while Yasiel Puig is hitless in seven at-bats with five strikeouts.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Dodgers optioned OF Brett Eibner to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Bellinger.

2. Giants RHP Mark Melancon has appeared in just six of the team’s first 21 games.

3. Dodgers LHP Grant Dayton (intercostal strain) struck out all three batters he faced for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday and could be activated for Friday’s game against Philadelphia.
