Every season, without a playoff system that is, we do this same thing. We spend our time trying to build up our teams and finding fault with other teams. Yes, sometimes we give cudos and we make concessions but most of us have an agenda when all is said and done. Was Florida the best team in the land. Who knows. All we know is that on a given day they were better than someone else. USC, Utah, and even Texas step forward and make claims. It never changes. But in the end we have to take the blame. We were all wrong and we always are. We short changed some teams and some players. We let our prejudices sway our views and opinions. But it is our fault. This huge black hole the NCAA has created by not having a playoff system is taking it's toll on us individually and collectively. We have to praise and find fault. We have to because we are competitive by nature. What the NCAA does in the end is push us into corners and we become cheap shot artists and nit pickers. Now that the bowls are done (Thank God) we have seen all the teams, some for the first time, and now, more than ever, our opinions have more depth but just as much prejudice. And now we have the added power of hind sight.
The bowls are done and we still do not know much more than we did. It is all about being the best team on a given day. Some how we have tried to turn this into somekind of a science. On top of that we have to listen to ESPN try to take control of every thing as if they are the final authority on all things sports.
We need a playoff. Every year it becomes more apparent. It should not fall into the hands of College Presidents. I have to get it off my chest about this same time every year. I know I am preaching to the choir. We must find a solution and put an end to all of this. Every other NCAA sport has a playoff system, except Div. 1 football. Go figure.

I now truly do not understand the phrase "it ain't over till it's over". NCAA football damn sure ain't over and never will be.

What if the NFL had the same system as college football?

Think about all the past Superbowl Champs that never would have even played in the title game. The Steelers when they beat Seattle for example.

Last year the Patriots would have played either Green Bay or the Cowboys in the Superbowl and the Giants never would have had a chance to be champs.

This year we would have the Titans and Giants play for the title and now looking back both the top teams have been beaten.

No doubt the history of college football would look at least a little different with a playoff. Granted pro teams are more evenly matched so the results may not be quite as scewed but the questions still remain after every season. Hopefully one day it will be implemented...

yes tootight a playoff would make way too much sense. I guess too many college presidents just do not want to change the status quo. Logistically would the higher ranked team have home team advantage? You have to fill the stands and there is not a lot of time for who ever is the visitor to make travel arrangements from week to week. Ideally, everyone would play on neutral fields but would you fill the stadiums and have to rely on TV money or more TV money. It really is a logistical nightmare and maybe easier said than done. But every other college sports has a playoff system and it works for them. That is a lot of wear and tear on the bodies of the athletes most of which have probably already played 11 or 12 games. Then there will be the usual bickering over the team(s) that were left out and then we are right back where we started. At least the final result would be absolute and not mythical. The gauntlet would have been run with one team emerging in the end. It is the American way!
