Probably the most respected or at least one of the top 3 most respected news men of all time..

Just another in the line of famous people who have passed away in the recent months.....at least in Mr Cronkite's case, he got a full life and got his money worth.....

Thanks for all the memories Walter.....i remember those films in school, "YOU WERE THERE" !!!

(July 17) -- A CBS executive says retired CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite, "the most trusted man in America," has died at his home in New York. He was 92.
CBS vice president Linda Mason says Cronkite died at 7:42 p.m. after a long illness with his family by his side.
He was the face of CBS News from 1962 to 1981, when stories ranged from the Kennedy assassination to Watergate and the Iranian hostage crisis.

Bucsfan67,

Who else would say is even in the top 3?

I could only think of Edward R. Murrow, but no other name even comes close to Cronkite in my book.

Very sad News. Like others, I also remember watching him.
Of Course at an early age, I use to fight with my dad.
I wanted to watch something else, But my dad always Watched him.
Who thought, later in life...I would watch him myself.

RIP Walter ! "And that's the way it is, July 17, 2009" (<)<

Personally, i would say he was the top....but I think arguments could be made for Hugh Downs, Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw and maybe even Barbara Walters, as she was the top female reports, newswoman for many years....she used to do serious stuff, not the fluff she does now..

But Cronkite was the top IMO....Brokaw a close second

I agree. He was the best.

I remember when a former school mate of mine was kidnapped and killed in Oklahoma City during a string of kidnappings and murders. My friend told me about her death and told me the story "made Walter" meaning that Walter reported on it.

For us old timers that only had 3 tv stations growing up, Walter was the best.

I can remember like it was yesterday when he came on the air and declared JFK was dead. I will never forget that.
