The Monte Carlo Simulators disbelievers did it again to themselves intentionally walking Barry Bonds to start an inning.

The flood gates opened and the Giants rolled (no biggie, sample size of one).

Yet, no one says a word. No one complains. It is like it was an act of God, unavoidable.

Yet, pitch to him and if he homers it is a stupid play by the manager.

The only time you even consider to walk a guy with no one on, or with the bases loaded is if you are managing the little league Yankees and the Bad News Bears have Kelly Leek up.

Now everyone will disagree with me. Never mind what millions of simulations using Bonds mind numbing past great numbers (VERY unlikely to be duplicated) would shout 'DON'T WALK HIM!" regardless of pitcher, situation, or who is hitting behind him when the bases are empty or loaded.

"Boys, today, I'm not going to talk about winning. I'm going to talk about losing. You lose this game to those misfits, you are going to have to live with it for the rest of your lives. You are 20-0. You are the greatest team I've ever coached. Go out there and beat the Bears".

I agree with Fezz, walks seem to score more than singles, perhaps because pitcher isn't going good, when he gives up a walk. Cause and effect ? Either way, walking Bonds everytime won't work. I'm OK with it if you have a decent lead, runner on 2nd 1 out, trying for DP, but not automaically walk the guy.

I would throw him a combination of of "ephus balls" and fastballs before I would walk him to start an inning. He would have to guess right and even then he would have trouble with the "ephus ball".

The "ephus ball" was the rainbow-arcing, slow pitch softball like pitch thrown by Rip Sewell in the 1940's. Ted Williams is the only man to homer on that pitch, but Sewell told him it was coming in a 9-0 game. Ted feebly fouled the first one off. Then took one for a ball. On the next one he used the hop up approach [which is the only way to hit the pitch] and crushed it for a homer.

Bill 'Spaceman" Lee had the "Leephus Ball" a direct descendant of the "Ephus Ball."
