I am sure I did numerous times between spring of 1976 when I first started driving myself to Ranger games in Arlington thru his last season in 1979. Nothing distinctive there, but was certainly aware of his bigger picture.

He did not like Reggie Jackson (gasp!).

But together they helped lead the Yankees to three consecutive pennants and back to back WS wins. I am pretty sure three consecutive pennants - done several imes in my life by various teams - is the best ever since the Yankees won five consecutive in the 50s

Earning Rookie of the Year and also (six years later) a league MVP is another unusual twin accolade

On August 1, 1979 the Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox 9-1. Thurman Munson started the game playing first base. He went 0 for 1 in the game. He drew a walk in the first inning and scored on a Home Run by Reggie Jackson. It would be Munson's last time on the field as he died in a plane crash the following day.
