Been very busy this season and didn't have much time to post. Had two solid post seasons in a row here. Will try to contribute by posting regularly.
Eastern Kentucky Colonels +3.5
Morehead State is 11-1 at home this season and 12-6 in OVC. That is great and I agree that they've had a very good season. Their 2nd closest home win this season came against EKY and honestly, EKY didn't even play good basketball at that time. That was EKY's 4th road game in a row with Austin Peay next. In two games prior to the game at MHSU, Eastern Kentucky had won by 3 at Chicago State and at SEMO State. Those two wins were as bad as some losses. In the 2nd meeting MHSU was red hot going in, winning 6 of 7, 9 of 11 and 13 of 16 and stil lost by 4 at EKY.
These two teams match up pretty well against each other and that's why this should be another close game. MHST is a better shooting team and EKY is a better ball handling team. But there is one major difference between these two tems that should help EKY prevailing in the end.
EKY is much deeper than MHSU. They are getting significant minutes from 8-10 players night in and night out and that is the main reason why they are 11-5 in their last 16 games, including a road overtime loss at OVC 2nd best Murray State in their seasons' finale. MHSU depends (a lot) on their starters and that's why they lost their final 4 games of the season. Their problems actually started in their close win over short handed SEMO. Since then, their defense has been very vulnerable with 75 points allowed per game and they had 30 more turnovers than their opponents in 4 games. It is highly unlikely that those stats will change considerably against EKY. EKY scored 69 ppg in two games against MHSU this season (51 ppg last season) and in two meetings this season EKY had 13 turnovers and MHSU had 29. EKY is just not turning the ball over. In their last two games (2 losses) they had 10.5 turnovers per game and in last 6 games their defense allowed 62.5 regulation ppg.
Morehead State covered all 4 meetings since last season, yet they are only -3.5 at home where they won 11 of 12 games this season. In last two seasons they lost in the first round of OVC Championships. EKY's two leaders Taylor and Rose were on that EKY team that went to the March Madness two years ago. These two guys have a lot to prove after being invisible in the first round loss last season.
