Very interesting read indeed. May offer some insight into potential mind games going on through offered lines this week.

Thank you for sharing!

"The book director job is to maintain an even keel about wins and losses when talking finances with casino presidents. This NFL season has been one of the worst in Las Vegas history, and it's magnified even more because 2015 was such a fantastic year. Those month-over-month ledgers look awful and the casino bosses want answers.

But the tried-and-true methods of booking games is the same this year as it has been in the past. If the books change methods too much, they change the chances of things cycling back to their favor as they always do.

It's simply a bad run. And what's wrong with bettors finally getting on a hot roll in the NFL? You keep them loyal and at least know they'll be back in the books next week to reinvest."

This is bullshit. If the raiders were such a big play why didn't the books adjust the spread?

Whats more is the flipside framing of that question. Why did they keep it fixed? Probably because the books themselves had estimated a very high probability of bills covering/outright win. So in a sense they may have decided the large reward from a high % on OAK offset (I'm assuming) their estimated low risk of Raiders winning and covering. i.e. maybe they made the decision to 'double down' on their position.

books are riding with the "sharps". even if the public is 87% on Oakland and the sharps are taking Beefalo, they'll keep the line low b/c that's what the sharps have.
but the books need to take opinions more and stop giving low lines against the likes of Cle, SF, Jax, Car.....these teams are simply not covering every week but the sharps
keep pounding them while the public cashes the other side

This....books are taking a side rather than trying to balance the action and it is biting them in the ass.

Everything comes full circle for the sportsbooks. If they have a losing week, they'll recoup the losses the following week. Losing month, they'll get it back next month. Losing year, next year. It's sports betting, everyone, including Vegas, goes through some rough streaks.

I have a buddy that is as square as they come. He's down a lot this year. From what I see (although not a bookie), I don't think books are getting crushed. Just my .02

No major book director will hang an outlier number. They would be looking for a new job the following day. At the end of the day the sportsbook is chump change to the casino revenue stream.
