Vlad Guererro, 10:1 to win AL MVP @ WWTS. He should be about 3:1, IMO.

Throw out: Sheffield (BA waaay too low), Ortiz (not even the MVP of his own team)

That leaves: Ichiro, Manny and Vlad as the only legit contenders for the award.

Vlad: .329 BA, 194 H, 34 HR, 116 RBI, 117 R, 15 SB, .586 SLG, .975 OBP,
.972 FLD
Ichiro: .372 BA, 252 H, 8 HR, 59 RBI, 98 R, 35 SB, .444 SLG, .828 OBP,
.992 FLD
Manny: .310 BA, 172 H, 43 HR, 129 RBI, 107 R, 2 SB, .619 SLG, 1.01 OBP.
DOESNT PLAY DEFENSE

I think Vlad is the BEST all around candidate given the numbers above. Manny is for sure a superior slugger, but he doesn't play defense. Ichiro is a lock Golden Glover and Vlad is putting up close to GG numbers and his having the best defensive season of his career with career highs in fielding percentage.

Ichiro is closing in on a great INDIVIDUAL record, but how are the Mariners faring in general? Right. Bottom dwellers. Plus, Ichiro won the AL MVP a few years ago so there might be some sentiment against giving it to him again.

The one big thing in Manny's favor is the infamous east coast bias that infects all media voting, such as the Heisman. My counter to that is that 1) Manny is a known ASSHOLE while Vlad has always been popular as an "underrated" player 2) I hope that Vlads years with the Expos have "exposed" him to enough east coast media voters that his exposure is high enough.

There is no doubt Anaheim would not be anywhere near a penant race this year without Vlad. He has totally carried this team and is getting el fuego again at the right time, down the stretch.

I think what this will come down too is whether or not Anaheim makes the penant on Vlad's broad shoulders. If they make it, Vlad at 10:1 is an absolute bargain.

Vlady sure doesnt get the recognition he deserves though, thats for sure.

It seems that when the AL MVP race is discussed, the major majority only talk of MANNY, ORTIZ, SHEFFIELD, and ICHIRO................when obviously looking at the numbers ppeter listed, Vlady is a legit contender.

If Vlady were playing for the Yanks, he would probably win the award actually.

manny is an incredibly nice guy. . good club house guy always joking around much like the rest of the team. in fact i cant think of any clubhouse ever with as much commradery and has as much fun and gets this rowdy, though I havent been watching the game that long.

back to the original point i dont think vlady will get it becuase he missed some games i thought? also he had a team very capable of going to the playoffs so if he wasnt able tohelp them get there i doubt he can be an MVP canidate. the season isnt exactly over yet.

Manny actually shows much more outward happiness for his teammates accomplishments than his own............something I have never seen Barry do for instance.

It is one of the things I really admire about Manny.............great team player and clubhouse presence.

If the Angels win the West...I think its 50/50 between Vlad and Manny...Manny may lose votes to Ortiz (297 40 134) who should finish very high himself...

These last 5 days really could sway some voters...........including myself.

Talk to me at the end of the season.

Right now............MANNY.

Redsox nation, if Manny was such a club house darling, why were the Sox trying so hard to trade him earlier in the season? I always understood Manny to be prima donna type more interested in his own numbers than the team winning. Maybe I am getting mixed up between him and Albert Belle, but I thought that was his image since his time in Cleveland.

Talk to anybody in baseball and they will tell you Vlad is the consumate team player. He would lay down a bunt or lay out for a catch in an instant while Manny---wait, he doesn't even catch--nor do I think he would willingly lay down a bunt without some grumbling first.

Ask any fan or teammate of Mannys, either of the Indians or the Red Sox, and see how the majority feel about Manny.

By the way, why would MANNY ever ever be asked to bunt under ANY circumstances?

That would be a poor managerial move, but Francona is just the type of idiot to call for it.

If he did, Manny should throw a fit!

Today Vlad goes 2-5 with a run and a walk upping his season BA to .333, Manny 1-2 with a run and a walk, Ichiro 1-3 with a walk. More importantly, the Angels take a 1 game lead in the AL west while Bosox choke against the DRays and kill any chance of winning the AL east.

Today goes to VLAD the impaler!

Today, the IMPALER goes 4-4 with 3 rbi and 2 HR! :scared:

Manny is not even fit to polish his glove right now (wait, Manny doesn't even OWN a glove since he is a panty DH)

Why WWTS insists on carrying Manny at -200 and still has the IMPALER at +300 is beyond any logic...

Ortiz is usually DH. .manny almost always plays left and bats 4th since that is where he hits best

ppeter- I think only Manny stands in the way of Vlady winning the award.

No way Sheffield should be voted ahead of Vlady.

Right now.........

1. MANNY
2. VLADY

These last three games could actually sway my vote towards Vlady.......but he will need some terrific numbers in the three games for me to do so.

Fish, gotta disagree. It's Vladdy right now. He has him in ever facet expect for a few more HR's and RBI's, and not many at that. Vlad is the clear star in his team while Manny is one of a bunch. Plus, Vlad plays defense. And an extra 28 points batting avg. Vlad for sure.

Ortiz in the race because of one HR? A DH hitting .299 with 132 K's is not going to win the MVP.

It's Vlad or Manny...and it's Vlad.
