Value of a particular autographed baseballs?

I have an early eighties [ don't even know the exact year] autographed Expo's baseball. On it are the autographs of Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, and Pete Rose.

Any ideas as to the value now and the potential value down the road should the Hawk get voted in and Rose finally allowed into the HOF

I meant to include-but didn't--one I also have of my all-time favorite team the southside hitless wonders--'59 Chisox. But wht not?

As a general rule, baseballs with autographs are worth much more if only one signature is on the ball, or an ENTIRE team.

Having said that, you still have a nice collectible that is worth some nice value if your signatures can be proved to be authentic.

Hope you don't mind if I add to your thread as I have approximately a dozen baseballs signed as well and have often wondered what they might be worth. The four that I would be most interested in knowing an approximate value are signed by Billy Martin, Mike Schmidt, Ozzie Smith and Dusty Baker. Hope someone out there has some familiarity with market values of sports memorabilia.

Leroy - If the '59 ball is on a Official Game Ball, the signatures are in good shape, and it includes Fox, Lollar, Lopez, and Kluszewski (very tough since he was on the team for the end of the year only) - $700+ in the Chicago area.

OMT - I would guess (on official game balls) -

Martin - $125+ (very popular)
Schmidt - $75
Baker - $40
Ozzie - $50 (very popular)

depends where the signatures are

if on the "sweet spot" (side opposite the "label" it is worht more.

also - get ALL signatures (if possible) with a BLUE BALL POINT PEN for over time anything else will fade and/or turn to yellow.

Guys:

Thanks for the responses. The balls are all Official Game Balls encased and protected and received as a gift from my neighbor who knew a number of major league umpires who could get signatures. The signatures are in blue pen, easily read, and between the seams opposite the label, i.e. the American League or National League logo.

Winky - Sounds like the balls meet your criteria.

My neighbor has given me numerous other sports memorabilia such as photos of Joe Montana and Vince Carter with wet signatures as well as a Hawaii football signed by June Jones. He has incredible stuff like boxing gloves signed by Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, a hockey stick signed by Wayne Gretzky, photos signed by Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Willy Mays, and on and on. He's 75 years old and had a lot of contacts over the years and built up quite a collection and cherishes them more than their value. Neither he nor I know what they're worth. Thanks again.

How do you get somebody to vouch that the signature is authentic?

These days, every signature comes with some sort of form/seal of authenticity.

But what about older signatures?

Here is the site you need: PSA/DNA If you have older autographs, it is worthwhile to have them authenticated. The items would be much easier to sell and you would get far more.

a few weeks ago i got magic johnson to sign TWO copies of the very first LA edition of "The National" daily sports paper - from 1/31/90.

i sensed they would be worth something 1 day - so i bought 2.

i kept them in very good condition over the years and got magic to sign them a few weeks ago @ $95 a pop. i then got them professionally framed. i will keep one - and sell the other one - maybe on eBay.

i KNEW a PSA/DNA really wouldn't be the best thing to get - so i have pictures of magic signing the papers - and whoever buys it from me - will get the picture. if at all possible - THIS is the best way to do it - a pic of the person signing it - for those can't be disputed. i also did NOT use a digital camera - but a "normal" one so there would be a negative and no one would suspect anything "funny"
