Unfortunately I am afraid you are right about the egos running around here. I just don't get why people get off on saying they picked winners. Personally I couldn't care less, the bottom line is putting money in your own bankroll. Some years ago a pretty wise player who dabbled in posting boards and had some experience with other forums of shared picks told me this tidbit:
Next time you think about becoming a regular poster of your plays, think about it this way. If you post winners that you don't bet, you will kick yourself. If you post winners that you bet, there just might be someone that took those picks and made more money than you from it and you won't get a dime from him. If you lose and no one bets them, you just look stupid and no one will pay attention going forward. If you lose and someone did back you for big money, you will be wishing that you only looked stupid and that no one paid attention to you. So how do you benefit??? Unless someone else whose opinion you highly value and trust says "post your plays or I don't post my plays or info" there is no good reason to do it except once in awhile just for a conversation piece on a big game.
I have followed that advice ever since. Once in awhile will post a winner on a big game, like the total on the GT game today, but I would never get into the habit of regularly posting plays outside of a contest opportunity, and even those I don't take too seriously.
