Their problem is that they don't have a "next generation". They are forced to open their borders to muslims, who are now beginning to wield political muscle all over Europe (see Sharia Law in London).

coming from a permabull that really means alot

also willie is the one that claims that the economy was doing great due to bush policies....plus the doing great part was a facade of debt and bubbles

thus the "bush boom"

i never claimed things bad because of one guy.....W didn't help the situation though....cutting taxes and increasing spending into the teeth of a financial crises

there are a variety of players that created this mess

I dont know much about economics. But the little i know tells me that the dollar being up 15% over the Euro is going to spell disaster for the US economy.

I am sure their are economists on this forum who can explain to this guy that no one is buying any thing domestically. Our retail sales numbers are in the tank. It does not help that our exports are going to get hit big time in the european market, while european companies shall be making a killing selling to the US.

I am guessing this is Econ 101 type stuff. (its not acceptable for a person to be this ignorant about our economy to the point that they make threads praising bad stuff that is happening to us thinking its a positive.)

yeah USD being up is bad news for mulitnational/tech corporate profits

and its just just euro

its many foreign currencies

for many many years now alot of corporate profits have been fluffed by a weak dollar and seeing strong sales gains in emerging markets that also have a stronger currency which makes them more USD when converted

now that process is reversing....and the global economy is slowing....so the growth rates in emerging markets will slow at the same time.....

that's the deflationary process nobody thought could happen

most of the gloom doomers were hyperinflationists that thought the dollar was going the way of the peso

it may over the very long term....but for the time being its still the world's reserve currency

Well put tiznow.. Car makers are about to jump off bridges with news like the dollar being 15% over the euro. That is disaster for them.

The only thing that kept them in business through these harsh times was the weak dollar that was throttling the japanese and foreign car makers.

Now the opposite is happening coupled with domestic sales that are completely destroyed, they are closing plants and cant even give away their cars.

Now they cant even see profits overseas!

this is bad bad news which ever way you cut it.

japanese in deep shit too

yen is the strongest currency going right now.....USD 2nd strongest

the yen carry trade is unwinding (sell yen with rates a .5% to buy say the kiwi with interest rates at 7-8%)....yet another bubble/problem in the world economy

and japan even though its stock market has fallen off a cliff since the 90s is still the world's 2nd largest economy

the whole global economy was functioning in an unsustainable manner

and now its all blowing up violently

this problem isn't just about us the whole world going down the tubes at the same time

which is the ONLY time such words as depression can be used.....depressions are global....

Yeah, please do tell me how a weak dollar helped our manufacturing base:ohno::ohno::ohno:

Like I haven't been on these boards saying that for the last two years.

This thread is about mocking those that say our economy is fucked, and the weakened dollar is an indication of such. Kinda funny that the world comes back to America when things get bad, eh?

Willie...I didnt say much about a weak dollar helping the manufacturing base.

I am specifically talking about the fact that your thesis about a stronger dollar being good for our economy as a bogus notion.
Please dont confuse the two. Argue your point instead of trying to bring up the issue of the weak dollar.
(and please dont tell me you are that badly informed about economics that you think deflation is automatically good for our economy just because some one argued inflation is bad for the economy. Please tell me that this idiot logic is not what you are trying to employ here)

also a strong dollar does nothing for us if no one is buying anything. It is shocking that you would talk so ignorantly about manufacturing when the numbers just released today indicate a strong decline in retail sales and manufacturing.

Also you must be the only one in the US who still thinks the USA has a strong manufacturing base. Where the heck have you been this year?

Have you visited any store in the USA lately? Are you aware that 95% of the products in those stores are manufactured overseas?

What manufacturing base are you exactly refering to? Because this is news to me that we have manufacturing sector here in the us that is apparently prospering.

Can you please provide us with any proof that this ghost manufacturing base is right now benefitting from a higher dollar?

Some one now needs to educate you on the fact that deflation and inflation can be bad for an economy particularly our economy that relies more on imported goods for well over 70% of retail (i am guessing on that number. It really should be higher than 70%)

yeah price stability is key

inflation is just the lesser of two evils we chose in recent history and now deflation coming steamrolling down on our asses and we are powerless to stop it

wasn't the fed created to provide "stability" to the system?

they haven't been doing a good job of that lately

end the fed :pope:
