The Colley Matrix, one of the components of the BCS equation, currently lists USC 14th and Utah #1. I am afraid USC is destined to live out Auburns experience of a few years back. Go undefeated and miss out on technicalities, ending up in the 3rd spot, and watching the BCS championship game at home.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel the rankings below are jaw dropping?

Ball St is #9? Really? On what planet? On the strength of their wins over Navy and Akron?

I know its early, that the BCS rankings begin in ~3 weeks, but this is something we'll have to watch given the Pac 10's weakness. Oh wait, USC hasn't played a pac 10 game, so conference weakness is not a factor. Hmmmm, someone please tell me how USC is 14th?

USC will be #1 if they don't lose when BCS comes out, 1/3 is coaches poll and 1/3 is harris where SC will be#1

It's true that USC will be left in oblivion if a big 12 team and sec team go undefeated as well. USC has a week schedule and really won't even be tested until a bcs game wherever they end up.

Yet you don't have any mathematical proof to support your argument, ignore the proof others have provided stating otherwise, and continue to make such statements apparently based on emotion alone, so you're really not to be taken seriously on this subject.

I think heavy looting would also go on in the south if an undefeated Florida or Georgia team don't get in. Along with the midwest if OU doesn't get in with a perfect record. And we're talking about teams who are having to play that extra conference title game being left out....But this is alot of if's..Let's let the season play out before you start the Watts riots again.

If either UGA/UF and OU/Mizz are undefeated through their 13 games, which include a Conference Championship and USC is 12-0 and hanging their hat on a blowout over a 2-loss or more Ohio St team, they SHOULD be left in the cold. I am actually praying this situation happens so that we can get a +1 Bowl game cause this type of situation would have the creators of the BCS crying.

No doubt about it, if the SEC is undefeated, they are 10000% in the title game. 1) They were already dicked with Auburn. 2) They have the winner of the last 2 NC

Honestly USC played a what turned out to be a horrible Virginia team and Ohio State looks like shit this year. The PAC10 is looking at its worst year in god knows how many years...so USC will play a very weak conference schedule.

If technically Georgia/Florida/LSU happens to go undefeated as well as Oklahoma and USC...then USC will have the weakest resume of them all.

Why should they be left out in the cold, because their schedule, something they have little control over, doesn't look to be as tough as a couple other teams?

I always thought that a good team is as good as it is based on its own merits and it has nothing to do with any other team's merits but its own. The polls are there to determine who is the best. Sometimes schedules help to decide it and sometimes they don't. Player talent, performance and power ratings are just as important if not more so. If anything, a weak SOS might obscure how good a team is in some cases but it doesn't prove they are bad or weak themselves.

That is why SOS counts only in PART and polls use SOS as one factor, not as the most important factor which is what all the whiners here are sniveling about. Why not? It suits them to overemphasize SOS in the big picture. But SOS is already integrated proportionally into the BCS ranking system. It's an empty argument.

USC is USC and it doesn't matter who they play. They are as good as they are as a team based on their own merits. Anyone who thinks USC isn't as good as they are because of their opponents weaknesses has proven nothing. Should a couple of SEC teams be dropped from the top 10 because of their weak OOC schedules? Same argument in reverse.

Anyone who still doesn't get it needs to read this... I have reposted it from another thread.

Ted Miller
: Here's why USC is hyped.

The Trojans have six running backs who will play in the NFL. Their QB, Mark Sanchez, could be a first-round draft pick. USC lists 10 WRs on its depth chart. I'd bet at least six get drafted. When Kristofer O'Dowd is a senior -- if he sticks around -- he might be the No. 1 center in the nation. I have a hard time believing at least two of the Trojans' other four offensive linemen won't stick on NFL teams.

ESPN.com's Mel Kiper ranks Fili Moala the No. 2 senior DT. He ranks Rey Maualuga the No. 1 ILB. He ranks Brian Cushing the No. 1 OLB. He ranks Taylor Mays the No. 1 junior safety.

And I'd bet you $1 that SS Kevin Ellison and CB Shareece Wright become first-day draft picks. And sophomore end Everson Griffen and those three freshmen on the DL depth chart? Holy cow.

That's my guess why people are voting USC No. 1: They look at USC and they see the nation's best team, however the schedule ahead will play out.

Who the hell is Ted Miller? My ass USC has 6 RBs that will play in the pros. How have recent USC draftees fared in the pros? Pretty shitty. USC has 10 bye weeks this season. Don't believe everything you read and hear. The Pac-1 is becoming a national punchline (I shouldv'e gotten a patent on the phrase)

It's because USC has only played two games, and people are low on Ohio St right now. When OSU wins the Big 10 it will only make USC look that more impressive, and Ohio St WILL win the Big 10. Don't get me confused with a homer fan because I don't cheer for any college team, but I can recognize talent and they have the most in the Big 10, and I still believe they are a top 5 team.

At least 6 or 7 of those teams in the top 20 won't even be ranked by the end of the season. Teams like Vandy, Minnesota, UK, Ball St, Nebraska, and Northwestern wouldn't even be in the top 50 by seasons end.

erroneous statement. if you can say this with a straight face i'd say you might be JC himself. yea the pac10 is shit but you cant discredit them, they're better than any team from the sec and especially the big 12. can't wait for the title game

Once again I'm getting misquoted here. I'm saying USC is not going to face any team worth any of our breath. the Washingtons, Arizonas, Oregons, guuuuuuu. Peeeuuuuuu. Ohio State, is a pathetic excuse for a team this year they could lose 3 games in the lowly big 10 this year and you can bank on that. All i'm saying is that if and only if a big 12 and sec team both went undefeated than usc should be left out. Now we all know, that no SEC will go undefeated now don't we. Obviously, it's going to OU v. USC. And we will see how that game turns out.
