Actually a pretty fair discussion. Meyer really had Florida rolling until he had that strange health issue that I never really understood (was it really just his health?)

The fact that he's about to win a National Championship with his 3rd string QB is uncanny.

I'm going Saban since he didn't just punt on 4th and 1 at the 41 yard line when his team is averaging 7 yards a carry all game

Urban Meyer is one of the greatest coaches ever. For those asking about the strange health issue. Meyer did not want to coach Florida without Tebow. Tebow was like a son to him and he had a hard time when it was all said and done. Took him a little while to realize he loved the game to much.

The first thing people will look at is that Saban has 4 titles to Urban's 3. However Urban has won at all levels including taking an undefeated mid major on paper & absolutely showing they could play with anyone. It is hard to not say Urban just might be a tad better.

I like Urban a lot better. Saban's jaw hit the ground when Auburn returned the fg for the game winner, and was just as shocked as everyone else in the stadium. Rather than admit that he hadn't prepared his team for that scenario, he threw them under the bus. Just one example, but I do think Saban is too proud, and more about himself than his players. Urban would have been more humble and honest.

Probably close to a tie, but I think Urban is more likeable and I'm 100% sure he is closer to his players and cares more than just about wins.

I just look forward to the epic Meyer vs Harbaugh contest in about 3 years.

Should be college football greatness.

Both great coaches. Personally can't stand either of them from their time in Florida. Saban treats common people like shit.

So does Urban Meyer with his pathetic lies to get out of a situation he doesn't like any longer.

What I want to know is what in the he!! attracts kids to Ohio State when there are so many other attractive schools...

I think Urban is better. Seems to me he is just as good of a recruiter, but is better at Xs and Os also. Urban is also only 50 years old. No telling how many nattys he ends up with.

Saban's a carpetbagger. Wouldn't trust him to wash my car.

So what does they make UM?

A guy who was never held a job as long as saban has been at Bama

No shit! Meyer is a mercenary just like Saban. You're splitting hairs trying to say which one is best. I think Meyer assembles the best coaching staffs, which makes him & his teams better. Saban is a micromanager, so he does not necessarily need the best coaches. He also developed the "analyst" positions you're seeing pop up now in CFB. Meyer is a motivator and Saban is a manager. Both are the best at what they do.

The bigger arguement here is: who is #3, 4, 5....?

It's like watching 2 Kenyans win a marathon....and the next guy is 2 miles behind (not even close).

Outside of Meyer & Saban you've got: Fisher (who is rapidly rising w the talent he's able to recruit), Miles? Patterson? Peterson? Stoops (falling stock), Harbaugh (we'll see), Franklin (jury is still out), Strong (jury is still out), Sumlin (will he ever find a Defense?).... There really is no strong #3/4/5 out there. They're all lumped together basically.

Let's see, Urban Meyer lost his top RB and 4 O-linemen from last year, his top 2 QB's from this year, and was still able to win a national championship against the number #1 and #2 teams. That's not only great coaching, it's great recruiting!

As much as it hurts to say this, Richt should be top 5 right now. Just one hiccup and Spurrier has cost him a trophy or two.

Richt just can't seem to get over the hump. I keep waiting for it to happen.....and it just never does. Will it ever all come together for him? Who knows? But he is a very good coach.

I don't think he has the IQ. He's just a helluva guy and recruiter, but he's dumb.
