Canadian acin': golfer sinks three holes-in-one in one week
By Jay Busbee
Don't know about you, but I never get tired of reading about wacky hole-in-one stories, mainly because I'm hoping one will one day feature my name in it. (I won't go and cook the books like a certain other columnist recently did, however. Have some pride, dude.)
Anyway, Steady Burn brings us a story from Canada.com of a golfer who did the deed not once, not twice, but -- wait for it -- three times! Our latest tale of golf hole perfection stars Adam Sams, a 34-year-old lobster fisherman from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He's drilled three holes-in-one in the past week.
Yes, feel free to go break something over that.
Anyway, Canada.com notes that the odds of such an occurrence are about three billion to one, which is such a vast number that I think they might have made it up. Here's how it shook out: Sams knocked down his first on Friday on a 171-yard par three, his second on Sunday at a 164-yarder, and his third on Tuesday at a 160-yarder. All three aces took place at the Highland Links course in Cape Breton. (That's them there at right; check 'em out as aces are dropping out of the sky there.)
"It hit the green, rolled up and sure enough went right in the hole," Sams said of his final shot. "I can't repeat what my friends were yelling at that point. They were shocked, and I was shocked. I couldn't believe my eyes. My whole body started to shake actually. You play 20 years and don't have any holes-in-one, then you get three in five days, it's amazing."
The lesson being, of course, that should you see Adam Sams on a golf course, attach yourself to his foursome like a tick. Chances are the guy's going to flag another ace, and you'll be in line to get him to buy you a drink. And maybe throw a lobster your way, too.
