Mods, if you want to make an official one just move my post to it. I am surprised no one has started a thread about this yet. Some possible topics for discussion.
Strategy: basic chart, card counting, splitting, doubling down, other ideas?
Casinos and house rules: Downtown vs. Strip, number of decks/shoes, house stands on 17, table minimums, who has quality dealers etc...
I know the Nugget is expecting us to play there and rightly so. Just wanted to get as many ideas, theories, stories, experiences etc..and hopefully some of us can put an ever so small dent in the house take while in Vegas.

Those are the "old-timey" rules for blackjack that gets most people slaughtered.I explained this time and time again that when the dealer has a 10 or higher showing, that you simply cannot always assume the dealer has another high card face down. This is how people bust and bust and bust , exactly what they want you to do.You must make the dealer bust often, and holding on 16 50% of the time (timing and odds are essential) to have great success. As I explained to people before, ask yourself this. When your first card is dealt, regardless of what the card is, and lets say your second card is held face down like the dealers, do you automatically assume that it is a 10 or higher? Of course not, so why do people always assume the dealer does?!. I know this method is not what many are comfortable with, but I finally convinced my buddy of this, and he has had much more success lately because of it.

Simple Answer Hache Man.. One Word: Probability.

If you are counting cards and know when it is advantageous to stay and when to hold then that is a different story. However, assuming 8 decks and dealer stays on all 17's, splitting and doubling allowed...and dealer looks for bj before the play starts, then the probability of you winning a hand with a 16 vs a dealer 10 is higher if you hit than if you dont.

If you are card counting everything is different. when it comes those vary close probabilities card situations.

www.wizardofodds.com for help to all.

Although I can not come to VEGAS for a number of possibilities....whenever you see a 1 deck game...play it!!! if the rules are close to dealer stands on 17 , splits, double downs allowed...

Watch out for the bogus blackjack games that don't pay full 1.5x for bj!!!

There are casinos that don't pay 1.5 x your bet on natural BJ. Poker Palace which is on the edge of the strip, pays only even money on BJ but they compensate you by dealing all the way to the last card on the deck. Nobody else does that. Great for counters. Plus they have a very good coupon book if you can get one with $5 matchplay coupons, 241 in the Cafe and 4 free drink tickets. Not bad.
