Not surprising at all...I played collegiate baseball in Florida for 2 years in the late 80s in the toughest Division II conference in the nation (played against Tino Martinez, who had 3 HRs in a DH against us at our field with a short RF porch)...He played for Tampa...
This happens all the time with these Florida schools, they are LOADED...The Community Colleges and Junior Colleges down there can beat Miami on occasion and our Division II school has beaten Miami in the past...
Like someone said in this thread, the talent level in baseball in these top-notch Florida schools and the Majors is about A-to-G...Take a Miami team with their ace going against ANY Big-League team at the beginning of spring training, and anyone can win...
The Big-leaguers have only been in camp just over a week...When I would go back to school after Christmas break on January 8th, we were practicing DAILY the next week, scrimmaging by the end of January, and starting our 60-game schedule in February...
So these collegiate boys are actually more "game-ready" then these big-leaguers...
So with all of this in mind, when it comes to Miami beating the Marlins today, it's like I said:
No surprise...
