I was unaware the passage to manhood was in high school. I always figured it was based on being self-sufficient meaning providing your own food, shelter, and basic needs. I don't know too many high schoolers that don't live at home. Competing is fine if the sides are relatively equal - not if its a gross mismatch concerning children.

Kids get hurt in high school football all the time. Usually has absolutely nothing to do with your opponent outweighing you... They weren't risking injury, they were risking embarrassment. You learn more from failure than success.

When I say being a man, it means have some balls. You are taking the saying too literally. I got put on the offensive line for a few games in junior high... not because I was a fat kid... just because we didn't have any fat kids (well, we had one, but that's about it). I weighed like 130 pounds and everyone I blocked was bigger than me. Doesn't mean I should say "f@#$ it" and quit. I'd rather give it a go and if failure happens, it happens.

Stop acting like a johnny bad-ass, what kind of chip do you have on your shoulder when you say these weren't risking injury? You need to re-read the article you posted. It had everything to do with risking injury. They should be allowed to have fun, but not at the extent of their safety - especially when they are too immature to handle situations like that.

Yea, sure...13 year old kids should all man up and grow a set of balls. They should all be chainsaw-wielding, whisky swigging lumberjacks - in addition to doing their homework and chores. Damn you are such a tough guy.

Have you ever seen a kid in high school that weighs 300 lbs? We are not talking about someone who resembles Orlando Pace. He isnt running a 4.5 40. The kid would be lucky to get off the snap in 4.5. These coaches were/are sackless.
