i read stuff in here and so many have so many allegiances that it would not matter what a candidate stood for as long as they had the (r) or (d) next to their name they are god.

i am not one of those people and i go very much back and forth. i am curious if i can get persuaded without the lame candy coated answers most people throw around in here which lack any substance.

despite what some might say about Bush not having been that bad of a president i see a country that is hurting, badly. i see sky high gas prices that the republicans, while they are known as the party that allegedly supports drilling domestically, who have had 8 years in the white house (not talking congressional election here) have not done anything to be proactive or reactive to keep us from getting raped by big oil (record profits being made regardless of what you say about their profit per gallon they are making more money than ever before, that you cannot argue with).

i see the industry that i am getting killed because of the high price of fuel and increases in food cost due to the ethanol subsidies.

i see us not having caught public enemy number one (Osama)... we caught saddam but not the guy we believe to be behind one of the greatest tragedies in american history(9/11).

so if you tell me that the stuff i have mentioned is all on the congress then it does not matter the president i elect and if you tell me it is on Bush than why would i hitch my wagon to that same party once again?

simply because Obama is worse?

but i can't vote for Obama simply because he is different either. he is for higher taxes, although my personal income tax would be lowered based off of his proposals (this holds true for both candidates).

guy has a lack of traditional experience. his beliefs on abortion could not be further from mine (but that is not changing in this country and it is all election year gum bumping).

i don't know whether ending the war as fast as he may propose is a good idea or not now that we have screwed the country (Iraq) up as poorly as we have.

i go back and forth on universal health care because it is an extreme handout but some people need/deserve the leg up while most i will agree don't.

essentially when electing a candidate you are choosing b/w two parties whether you like it or not. the case for the republicans is evident in the past 8 years. they have had their guy in the white house. the case for the democrats can't simply be that he is different although i lean hard that direction because i see a lot of the country (the middle class especially) trending towards a dangerous direction.

anywho bash away or whatever but i would be interested in serious conversation.

Uno, as you probably know I‘m an Independent. Voted for Clinton twice, Bush twice. But what I really trumpet is conservatism, you know less government the better, less government means less spending and less spending is the only thing that can right the ship. I’m not going to try and tell you who should vote for, obviously that’s your decision. Take some time and look a BO’s web page. It spells out everything he wants to do but what it doesn’t spell out is how he plans on doing it. There’s a lot feel good stuff in there like $1000 per household to help offset heating and cooling costs. That’s great for American families and I would welcome that like everyone else. However he wants to pay for it with a “wind fall profit tax on oil”. To me that’s like saying if you make too much, we’re going to punish you for your success. Another thing is my wife and I will pay zero taxes. Great. Someone else will have to make up the difference. If you take a look at his wish list, and it’s a biggy, one has to wonder how he pays for it? To me it’s full blown socialism, Robin Hood on steroids if you will. So enough of my rant. Do your research and vote for who you believe will be best for the country not necessary yourself.

Its a good question Uno and a good answer Dave.

I will vote for Obama in November because I think he offers a chance to get away from the rule by Washington insiders. He is a much more intelligent man than either Bush or McCain and that gives him a fighting chance at doing things right.

Being the 1st African American to serve as president will put an enormous amount of pressure on him to again do things right.

The Republicans have left me very cold 1st they went wild trying to steal everything that wasn't nailed down. Evidenced by Jack Abramoff and our Representative Tom Delay. Instead of trying to govern properly Delay made it his mission to make sure that the Republican could maintain power. I think that was unamerican.

Then the war. I have voiced strongly on this fourm how I feel about that and Bush's administration in general.

Our country is a mess and 7 and 2/3 years ago it was in good if not great shape.

To reward the Republicans with your vote after what they have done would be a travesty.

Only hope is to get the Dem's out of control. They've screwed up this nation since they took control of the House & Congress.

Punter, you’re right about the Republican congress. They screwed the pooch big time, that’s why they got voted out. They made a mockery of the word conservative and paid the price. I can’t vote for BO because I believe he will bankrupt the country with his social agenda. I’m a capitalist and I just can’t do it.

Bush spent far too much money and the GOP brand has been hurt by this more than anything.

We can defend the war, we can defend being proactive in the war against terrorism, we cannot defend out of control spending.

McCain says he'll control spending, but I can't say with absolute confidence I believe him. Obama will make Bush look like an ultra conservative on this issue, as he promises to expand one federal program after another. He's as close to a socialist as any major party candidate as ever been.

As for drilling, there can be little debate what party stands where, not today anyways.
