Hoping to get a few opinions on this game. As of tonight, the Heels are -4 and the total points for the game are 46.5. Thinking about a play on the total. The under looks tempting but I feel like there will be some defensive scores, etc in this game that will take it over.... and the offenses always play better on week 2.
Last week against the Citadel, the Heels defense looked great (as expected) allowing only 153 yards, and Butch's style of rotating a lot of players should be able to handle UConn's no-huddle offense. All that speed should be able to contain UConn's two backs as well...
UNC's offense took a bit to get going last week. As we lost our 3 best receivers to graduation, it looks like Butch has elected to go with a mainly ground attack. I hope this was just a case of an offense going through the normal splutters in week 1, but I can see how this could be a worry come Saturday.
In terms of rushing, Shaun Draughn had 118 yds on the day and short yardage back Ryan Houston had 45 and 2 TDs. However, against the Citadel, I felt like it should have been more.
In the air, TJ Yates struggled in the air (9-20, 114 yd / 2 for 21 and 25 yds and 2 for 18 yd ea., 2 td, 1 int) so I'm hoping that doesn't point to us having an offense that is one-dimensional this weekend against the Huskies.
The 4-12 on 3rd downs v the Citadel are a point of concern as well.
From what I've read, UConn's secondary put forth a weak showing last Saturday against Ohio, so there might be a chance for some big pass plays here and some good runs Draughn if he can break through the UConn line.
The Tar Heel boys are an experienced group on the O-line save one: LG Johnathan Cooper. If he finds himself alone blocking UConn's Lindsey Witten (3 sacks and a safety last week v Ohio) or big Kendall Reyes, who is being talked about, along with Witten, as a first round NFL draft choice, there could be problems for a passing game that looked less than impressive last week.
That said, I still like the over. Anyone got any good info on UConn's offense and matchups with the Tar Heel D?
