Umpire Doug Eddings, who is behind the plate in this evening's Marlins-Braves game, has one of the widest strike zones among MLB umps. His 4.5 walks per game is thee lowest among umps who have been behind the plate in 3 or more games this season.

I was sitting a few rows behind home plate at the Yanks-Mariners game several weeks ago in Seattle and it was unbelievable how huge Eddings' strike zone was. Several batters complained...justifiably so.

Granted, the "under" is covering at a rather pedestrian 57% (8-6-1) in his fifteen games behind the plate, but I think Eddings is due for a major "under" streak. He definitely deserves major consideration when capping over/unders.

Not just this year. Guy has been a major under his career and also favors the home team.

Nice info. I like that "Kamala" in your avatar. Remember him wrestling in Dallas when I was a youngster. He was exciting with his big Uganden self.

There was a St. Louis @ Kansas City game earlier this year with Eddings behind home plate. Lima plunked two Cardinal batters and then threw one near the head of a third. Eddings warns BOTH dugouts and from that point forward everything within 8 inches outside the plate was a STRIKE. Left or right handed hitter, it didn't matter. Outside pitches were strikes. Soon, you had guys lunging across the plate to swing at outside pitches. Game wound up 6-5 St. Louis. It was a ridiculous game, all things considered.

After I read this thread I made a play on the home team Marlins. And sure enough, the Atlanta catcher and manager were tossed out in the 1st inning. Thanks, Elvin11, for the great post.

Eddings is the pitcher's best pal.A few of his overs this year were due to some real incompetence by the pitchers.Eddings is my favorite umpire.

I had the under in that game and was getting updates over the phone while I was at the airport.I hate not being able to see an Eddings game.Good to know he was doing everything he could to help the under.

Great call Elvin!!!

I saw Kamala wrestle "boogie woogie" Jimmy Valiant about 3 months ago. Tully Blanchard wrestled Dusty Rhodes on the same card.
