Who was the last challenger (perhaps only since Zuffa?) to lose and get an immediate rematch? I had to look this up so I know the answer now.

Shogun vs Machida

I think Hendricks would've probably got a rematch with GSP if GSP didn't retire.

JJ was champ, a lot of champs have gotten immediate rematches. Silva vs Weidman, GSP vs Serra, BJ Penn vs Edgar. Stipe vs DC kinda.

Last challenger

There was another draw that led to a rematch as well. Grey Maynard vs Edgar (I thought Edgar won this fight, basically was in control after the 10-8 1st rd)...Cody Garbrandt another champ that got rematch. Rousey did in the way that Stipe did, they didn't fight in between their title fights but their opponents did.

But Shogun only challenger off a loss that got immediate rematch I could find.

I couldn’t careless really, it’s not like people are dying to see Reyes or Jan fight.

I personally think Reyes Won, but would probably get smashed in a rematch.

Jan vs Santos, idk, but I’ll roll with Jan avenging another loss, and he’s a new fighter after switching camps...

If I were UFC I think I'd let Jones/Reyes 2 marinate for a minute. Granted in MMA you run the risk of the rematch getting blown up but I think if you let them both go out and get a quality W and revisit in a year then it'll be an even bigger fight.

If the rematch was in June then I think Jones should be -230 and he probably wins but the longer it takes for rematch likely favors Reyes. Jones got a lot of mileage on him and Reyes only getting better.

I get when it is a straight draw you wanna do the rematch but I think in a close, polarizing decision that distance makes the heart grow fonder.

I think in a rematch -230 is way too high considering what just happened. I see Jones as -175.

Jones been the best version of himself in rematches though. Gus/DC he was significantly better than the first fight. I think Reyes is close but Bones definitely has another gear when he tastes his own blood.

If I were Reyes I'd wanna put a little distance between a rematch, work on my game and see him in a year/18 months.

I wouldn’t at all, the Jones is 33 years old and not himself talk has already been started. Beat him when he’s 35, and it’ll be “you only beat him because he’s 35 and not himself anymore”, like he became a has been overnight. People don’t understand early 30s is primetime age for a fighter anyways, but it’ll be nothing but excuses about age once he gets beat...

He'll be 33 in Mid-July. He'll also be 33 9 months after that.

Don't see it as too much of a difference in how it will be viewed.

Always gonna be people talking some type of nonsense about a fighters success. Hell, there is a guy on this board that thinks Roy Nelson would've washed Jones.

Idk if he’ll be given the rematch immediately or not, most likely, not, but he’d be a complete dumbass to turn it down, so there’s that...

Even if he doesn’t, it won’t be 18 months, regardless, barring injury, of course...

But, who knows really, maybe the Roy Nelson guy gets his wish and he fights a so called “super fight” at Heavyweight.

Maybe he takes that two year hiatus he’s talked about, crazy if he does imo, he won’t keep his mind preoccupied like he should and I’m afraid that drug problem comes back. Then again, he’s probably ready for those days to begin...

Yeah, if you are Reyes maybe purely financially you just take that part 2 payday as soon as you can get it (he got a good job though outside the cage, seems like a smart kid that doesn't need to jump at it) Gus/Jones 2 didn't happen for another 5 years, MMA is an unpredictable sport. 1 in the hen > 2 in the bush.

UFC got a lot going on right now with Tony/Khabib, DC/Stipe 3, McGregor is back, Masvidal is more popular than ever, Izzy is the hottest thing at MW since Spider. Seems like they might wanna wait on it since they have their hands full with promotion right now.

That ESPN deal was a 700 foot homerun.

I think everyone believe Anderson was a better match to beat Jones. Maybe that is true but not for the reason people think. I don't think you beat Jones with wrestling unless it is at heavyweight. What works on jones is aggressiveness.....power punches and leg kicks all mixed together. You can't counter Jones and wait for him. And you need power to take advantage of the instances you do touch him. Look at when fighters have success. Even Glover early in his fight against Jones was throwing power and just missing. That is when Jones put him up against the cage and took him down. He didn't want anything to do with that
If Jan can stay on his feet maybe he can do a bit of what Santos and Reyes did. Santos more with power and aggression...Reyws used more movement but also went forward.....atleast when he wasn't tired

Anyone notice post Jones USADA he isn't dominating anyone like he was pre-USADA? Maybe he's just fighting down to his competition but it is interesting.
