In his very first professional fight, Emerson fought UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver. In his very first fight!!! Even more incredible, he took it all the way to a decision.
His second pro fight was against Jamal Perkins, 6-0 at the time with some larger promotions. Emerson lost a decision.
Third, he got Javier Vazquez who is currently 12-2 with one of those losses against UFC fighter Alberto Crane.
Then in his fourth, he got Dok Mishima, a very experienced fighter who had already competed heavily in Shooto, DEEP, and Pride. Emerson again lasted till the decision. Mishima has since been in the UFC as well.
Those were the first four fights for Emerson and he wasn't even actively training hard at that time if you believe what he says. He never got submitted or knocked out. Now that he is training, he can win a decision over anyone. He can also lose a decision to anyone quite as easily, but you have to consider the fact that he has what it takes to at least get to the scorecards.
