Depends on the situation. You stick to the battles you can win, meaning something like an organised protest, and not being a smartarse when you are one on one with the cop. I don't think this was a bad situation since there were people with video cameras and it was very public. While the cops here abused their power, I'm not sure it was significant enough for them to be disciplined or for a law suit to be winnable. They warned him and he resisted. From what I've seen in the media that gives them a good excuse to cover their actions.
Get real and grow some stones like this guy.
There are smart ways and stupid ways to go about it. While it might have been the right situation, the kid did himself no favour by acting like an arse. He was also too aggressive and pushed a cop which may lead to an assault charge.

Were he to actually win the presidency in 2020, Kerry would be 77 years old on inauguration day, and that would make him the oldest president in U.S. history.
